Box Office: Add-ons in the Box Office

Updated over a week ago

Add-ons are a great way to increase the value of any order and add a new layer of delight to your patrons' visits. You can now purchase add-ons directly from the box office - including drop-shipped merchandise that On The Stage fulfills for you!

👟Walk Through

The Add-ons and Merchandise Section

At the bottom of the box office portal you will find the Add-Ons and Merchandise section. This lists all add-ons available for the performance you’ve chosen, namely add-ons that are marked as “All Productions” as well as those for the specific performance you’ve selected in the box office.

If an item is available for sale the Add to Cart button will be active. If the item is off-sale OR the conditions haven’t been met to purchase it (i.e. it requires a ticket to be in the cart but a ticket hasn’t yet been selected) the Add to Cart button will be disabled.

Each add-on shows the name, price (with estimated fees if applicable), and an image. Each add-on can optionally show a chip noting any special features. An item may include one or more chips. These include:

  • If the item is a Printful item, it has a “drop shipped” chip overlaying it on the top right.

  • If an item requires a ticket it is disabled until tickets are added to the cart and has a “ticket required” chip overlaying it.

  • If an item is off-sale it appears in the list but is disabled and has an “off sale” chip overlaying it.

Adding to the Cart

Selecting the “Add to Cart” button adds one item to the cart each time it is clicked. Each item added will be shown as a single line item, just as with tickets.

Add-ons may be deleted from the cart using the trash can icon. Unlike tickets, memberships, and subscriptions the price of add-ons may not be adjusted.

If a drop-shipped item is added to the cart any sales tax and shipping costs are estimated using the venue’s address. Until the patron’s full address is collected later in checkout, we assume that the patron is close to the venue for this estimate.

In this example we’ve added a mug ($12.95) to be drop shipped. Estimated shipping is $6.53 and estimated tax is $1.02 based on the venue’s address.

When the patron’s address is collected later in the checkout process this estimate will be revised to reflect the final shipping address based on the address the patron provides.

Searching for Add-ons and Merchandise

It can be cumbersome to scroll through a large list of available add-ons. The search bar is here to help! The add-ons list updates in real time as the user types. Inputting “pa” filters the list to include the two tiers of parking and the snack pack.

Completing the work “park” shows only the two parking add-ons.

🎓 Recap

In the Box Office portal of On The Stage, you'll find an Add-Ons and Merchandise section at the bottom that displays items available to purchase—these can be general (marked “All Productions”) or specific to the selected performance. Each add-on shows its name, price (including estimated fees), and an image. Special labels (chips) appear if an item is drop-shipped, ticket-dependent, or off-sale. You can add items individually to the cart, delete them if needed, and while prices can't be adjusted in this view, estimated shipping and tax for drop-shipped goods are calculated using the venue's address and later updated once the patron's full address is known. The section also includes a dynamic search bar that filters add-ons in real time.

🚀 Best Practices

  1. 🛒 Feature clear add-on indicators – Ensure chips like “drop-shipped,” “ticket required,” and “off sale” are enabled so staff can quickly identify an item’s availability and necessary conditions.

  2. 🔍 Use the search bar to your advantage – For venues with many options, leverage the real-time filter to speed up locating specific add-ons like snacks or parking.

  3. đŸ‘„ Manage cart contents efficiently – Staff should know they can add items individually and remove them via the trash icon, ensuring clean, accurate orders without price adjustments at this stage.
