Permit issued but Inspection not required

Funding

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

For projects where a permit has been pulled, a final inspection is typically required before funding can be released. This ensures the project has been completed according to local jurisdiction requirements and is approved for operation.

Standard Requirement

If a permit was required for the project, the following must be provided for funding:

  • Final inspection approval from the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)

  • Permission to Operate (PTO), PTO Application

Funding cannot be released without confirmation that all required inspections tied to the permit have been completed and approved.

Exception: AHJ Does Not Require Inspections

In some jurisdictions, permits may be required but inspections are not conducted. In these cases, the following documentation must be provided:

Required documentation:

  • Written confirmation from the AHJ stating inspections are not required and not conducted for the permit type

  • Documentation showing the permit has been properly closed or finalized

  • PTO approval (required since no inspection is conducted to verify completion)

Important Notes

  • A note from the installer alone is not sufficient. Documentation must come directly from the AHJ.

  • PTO is required in cases where inspections are not performed because it serves as confirmation the system is approved for operation.

  • All documentation must be uploaded to the project file before funding can be reviewed.

Summary

Scenario

Required for Funding

Permit with inspection required

Final inspection approval + + PTO (application)

Permit with no inspection required by AHJ

AHJ letter confirming no inspections + permit closure + PTO

Key Takeaway

If a permit exists, we must verify how it was closed. Either a final inspection must be provided, or official AHJ documentation must confirm inspections are not required, along with proof of PTO.
