If you’re using Google Ads as part of your LocalAds campaign, Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a useful tool that allows us to install event code on your website. What this means is we’re able to track things like button clicks, page views, form submits and other unique events.

Getting GTM installed on the site before a LocalAds campaign launch is key. If we’re able to track your results from the beginning, we can gain a better understanding of how well your campaign is performing.

In this article, we'll be going through:

  • Creating your GTM account

  • Finding the GTM code to insert in the header & body of your site pages

  • Granting our team access to your GTM so we can better track your LocalAds campaign performance

Creating Your Account

  1. Go to Google Tag Manager. Click on “Create Accounts” on the top right-hand side of the page.

  2. Under Account Setup, enter your Account Name and your country. Under Container Setup, enter the Container Name and select “Web” from the Target Platform list. The Container Name will hold all tags, variables, etc. for your website, so you can identify it with your website URL if you wish, or use another distinctive name.

  3. Click ‘Create’ and complete the terms of service agreement if you agree.

Accessing the GTM Code

If you or your website management team is handling the addition of the code to your website, ensure to install the code in both the header and the body for it to function properly. You can add the code yourself by clicking on "Workspace", finding your Container ID, clicking on the code starting with "GTM", and copying the code into your page (again, into both the header and the body).

Granting Access to your OneLocal Marketing Specialist

The last and most crucial step is to grant GTM access to our team at connect@onelocal.com. This will ensure that we have access to the statistics generated by the GTM code on your website. Follow these steps:

  1. Click “Admin”

2. Click “User Management”

3. Click the + button

4. Enter connect@onelocal.com. Make sure “Administrator” is checked off.

5. Click "Invite"

We'll handle the rest!
