As an online notary, you may get a request to sign the I-9 form for a remote employee. This form does not require notarization. Companies can outsource the signing to an authorized representative (like a notary).
The signing cost to a client is the same as the cost of notarization with one notary stamp.
To sign the I-9 form as an authorized representative:
Ask if the Employer has an E-Verify profile in good standing.
Check that the information in Sections 1, 2, and 3 corresponds to the information on the documents provided by the signer
Sign at the bottom of Section 2 the information regarding the authorized representative right after the certification: I attest, under penalty of perjury, that (1) I have examined the document(s) presented by the above-named employee, (2) the above-listed document(s) appear to be genuine and to relate to the employee named, and (3) to the best of my knowledge the employee is authorized to work in the United States.
