What is IPEN?
With IPEN, commissioned notaries meet signers face to face in order to complete electronic documents on their laptops or tablets.
Once your profile is set up, you’ll be able to accept IPEN assignments from OneNotary clients.
Step 1: Create your notary account
Visit onenotary.us and click Get Started Now to open the registration form.
You’ll be asked to enter:
Your first and last name
State of commission
Notary commission number
Email address
Password
After completing the form, agree to the Terms of Service and click Sign Up.
You’ll be prompted to confirm your email before continuing.
Open the message titled Notary Registration and click Confirm your email.
Step 2: Add Your Personal & Commission Details
After confirming your email, you’ll be taken into the onboarding flow.
Personal Information
Upload your profile photo. Use a clean, professional photo since clients will see it before sessions.
Verify that your name matches your notary commission.
Enter your phone number.
Commission Information
Enter:
State of commission
Commission number (if applicable)
Commission expiration date
Once complete, click Next.
Review Your Notary Profile Information
Check the summary of your commission details. Choose:
Confirm and Proceed — if everything is correct or
Edit Commission Details — if you need to make changes
This step ensures legal compliance and prevents mistakes in your digital certificate.
Step 3: Complete Identity Verification
As part of onboarding, you’ll be asked to complete identity verification, which is required by state law.
This process includes confirming your personal information and verifying your government-issued photo ID. The platform will guide you through each step automatically.

Step 4: Add Your Digital Credentials
Digital Certificate
A digital certificate is used to securely sign and protect notarized documents.
Depending on your state, you will see one of the following options:
Generate New Certificate, or
Upload Your Own if certificate generation isn’t supported for your state.
In that case, upload a certificate issued by another trusted provider.
eNotary Stamp
An eNotary stamp is a digital version of your official notary stamp and includes the information required by your state (such as your name, commission number, and expiration date).
As with certificates, your options depend on your state:
Generate a New eNotary Stamp, or
Upload Your Own
Status Confirmation
If you already have a RON commission, you can add it here. If not, select Not Yet.
Your profile will be activated as IPEN, enabling you to perform in‑person electronic notarizations where allowed by your state.
If you later obtain a RON commission, you can return to your notary profile to upgrade your authorization without having to repeat the full onboarding flow.
