If you're unsure of where to start when it comes to setting targets for your team, this guide will give you some advice and inspiration!

🎯 What are targets?

Targets are specific, measurable objectives set to guide and evaluate performance which could be specific to an individual or an overarching team or company goal. Performance targets are essential for sales and recruitment teams as they drive motivation, measure productivity, support development and align individual efforts with organisational goals.

πŸš€ How do targets work within OneUp?

Within OneUp, Targets can be set for a user, team or company against a specific metric, for a specified date range or on a rolling basis. Check out this article for a guide on how to set up your targets within OneUp!

When setting targets, you can choose to either set a recurring target that will continue to roll over on an indefinite basis, or select a timeframe to account for targets that are adjusted over time based on factors such as a consultant's experience, the time of year or a key focus area for a specific month for example. This may also include the practice of pledging; where a consultant pledges to achieve X amount of activity within a time period.

Adding Targets within OneUp

Once created, targets can be:

  • displayed on dashboards;

  • used as the basis for an incentive, such as a leaderboard ranking users based on the % of their individual target attained;

  • viewed in reports, alongside actual performance, to allow managers to dive deeper into their team's stats;

  • shown on TV's, via target matrix and target leaderboard slides

❓ How do I know what targets to set?

Targets will vary business to business, but it can be hard to know where to start and understand what your team are currently achieving if you haven't had easy access to data before OneUp. It is a good idea to look at your top performers and break down their activity to find out 'what good looks like'. You can then use this information to set achievable targets for other team members.

In recruitment, we commonly see targets set for key metrics such as:

  • BD calls

  • Jobs added

  • CV's sent

  • Interviews arranged

  • Placements made

  • Revenue

Targets may vary from person to person - for example, you are unlikely to set the same targets for a new starter as you would for an experienced consultant.

We also commonly see team or company targets set in addition to individual targets - for example, your annual company revenue budget is likely to stay the same regardless of leavers and new starters, and is therefore not going to be a cumulative total of all individual revenue targets. Within OneUp, you can add a separate company target and then add this to dashboards so everyone can keep up to date with the company's progress!

πŸ’‘ Top Tips

  • Make sure your targets are kept up to date - targets on the Dashboard are a key part of consultant's owning their performance and accountability.

  • Expected performance indicators on the dashboard and reports will show at a glance whether a user is on track to achieve a target based on the activity that should have been achieved by that moment in time.

  • You don't need to set targets for every single metric - pick the key ones that are important to your business, to drive focus in these areas.

  • Set up a target template for commonly used sets of targets that can then be easily assigned to new starters.

  • For new starters, it's a good idea to start with reduced targets and ramp these up on a weekly / monthly basis as they settle in to their new role.
