When you install Ongoing SEO, we instantly add structured data to your entire site.

Think of structured data like looking under the hood of a car:

  • From the outside, you see the finished product (your homepage).

  • Under the hood, there’s structured data — code that tells Google everything it needs to know about your store.

You can’t see it in the design, but Google can. And there’s a way you can check it too.

What We’ll Cover in This Guide

  • How to view your structured data

  • How to read the data

  • What structured data means

  • Why it’s important for your store

  • How to fix errors

  • How to handle duplicates

Viewing Your Structured Data

You can use Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool to peek “under the hood” and see the code we’ve added.

Two ways to do this:

  1. From the Ongoing SEO app:

    • Pick a product and click Structured Data.

  2. From Google’s Tool:

You’ll now see all the structured data Google detects for that page.

Making Sense of the Results

The tool has two sides:

  • Left: The raw code of your site.

  • Right: A list of the structured data items Google found.

Each item has details (called attributes) like:

  • For an Organization item: name, logo, URL, address, phone number.

  • For a Product item: price, color, material, SKU, reviews.

Click the dropdown arrow to see all the details for any item. Hover over a detail to see exactly where it appears in the code.

What Is Structured Data?

Structured data is extra information about your store’s products, collections, articles, and blogs — formatted so search engines understand it instantly.

It’s added to your site in a special format called JSON-LD.

Google uses this info to create rich results in search — enhanced listings with extra details like ratings, prices, and availability.

Why Structured Data Helps Your Store

  • Better SEO: Google understands your content more clearly.

  • Rich results: Your products can appear with extra details in search.

  • More clicks: Rich results stand out and attract attention.

Example: Instead of a plain blue link, you could have a product listing with price, rating stars, and stock availability right on Google’s results page.

Fixing Structured Data Errors

Sometimes errors appear in the testing tool. Common reasons include:

  1. Errors in your theme’s built-in structured data

  2. Another app adding incomplete structured data

  3. Overlapping code from multiple sources

You can check and fix these in Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmasters) using the Rich Card Report.

Removing Duplicate Structured Data

If the same item appears multiple times, it’s usually because:

  • Your theme is adding its own structured data

  • Another app is adding structured data

You can:

  • Remove the theme’s structured data so our app is the single source

  • Uninstall the app causing duplication

Even if you keep duplicates, Google will usually pick our code because it’s the most complete and up-to-date. But cleaning it up is still best practice.

Bottom line: Our app gives you the highest-quality structured data for your Shopify store. Keep it installed, and you’ll make it easier for Google to understand your site — and show it off in search results.
