Why Am I Seeing Duplicate Structured Data?

If you’ve been using Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool, you might see duplicate structured data show up — sometimes even as an error message.

So what does that mean?

Basically, Google found two copies of the same structured data while scanning your site.

Why This Happens

Most of the time, duplication comes from your theme.

Another common reason is having more than one SEO app installed — which can cause overlapping structured data.

In the example below, the Organization data is listed twice:

  • One version comes from the theme

  • The second (correct) version comes from our app

Notice how “Organization” is listed twice? That’s duplicate structured data — and it’s nothing to stress about.

Should I Worry About This?

Nope. It happens all the time.

Google is smart enough to detect both versions and will only use the correct one. It will completely ignore the extra copy.

How to Make Sure Everything’s Fine

  1. Register your site with Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmasters).

    • This lets you monitor your site for any actual structured data errors.

  2. If Google detects an error, they’ll email you directly.

  3. If there is an error, our app will override it — so you don’t have to manually fix anything.
