Configuring Product Variations: Sizes, Colors, and Options in Edlio Pay

Step-by-step guide to configuring drop-down variation menus for apparel sizing, colors, and options on school store products in Edlio Pay (OSP).

Overview of Product Variations

When selling items that come in multiple choices—such as spirit wear t-shirts (Youth S through Adult 3XL), hoodie colors, or ticket tiers—creating individual products for every combination clutters your school store. Product Variations allow you to consolidate choices into clean drop-down menus on a single product page.

💡 Best-Practice Adoption Tip: Use Product Variations when options affect pricing (e.g., Adult 2XL and 3XL cost $3.00 more) or require distinct SKU tracking. If you simply need to collect information that does not alter pricing (such as student homeroom number), use Form Fields instead.

⚠️ Important Pricing Requirement: In Edlio Pay (OSP), Product Variations can only be used with Fixed Pricing. Items with Variable Pricing (where the purchaser enters their own payment amount at checkout, such as donations or open fees) cannot use variations and will not populate in variation setup.

Configuring Variation Types in Setup

Before applying variations to a product, define your school's standard variation categories:

  1. From the Pay Management Dashboard, navigate to Setup > OSP Product Variations.

  2. Review existing global variation groups (e.g., Apparel Size, Color, Ticket Type).

  3. To create a new variation group, click Add Variation, name the group, and define the individual choices (e.g., Small, Medium, Large, XL).

  4. Click Save.

Applying Variations to a Product

Once variation groups exist, attach them to your store item:

  1. In Products, click to edit your desired item (e.g., AMS Sweatshirt).

  2. Ensure the Price Type is set to Fixed on the Required Fields tab. Enter your baseline price (e.g., $25.00). Note: Variable-priced products cannot use variations.

  3. Open the Variations configuration section and select your variation group (e.g., Sweatshirt Sizes).

  4. Configure pricing for each option (e.g., Small–XL: $25.00, 2XL–3XL: $28.00).

  5. Click Save. On the public storefront, purchasers will see a clean dropdown menu to select their preferred size before adding the item to their cart.
