Setting Up Your Standings for Tournament and/or League

Updated over a month ago

Changes have been made to the Standings section where point values and tie-breaker values are set. These changes provide more control by the user. Originally, the system set a max of 3 for goals and tie-breakers. Now, it is flexible and you can enter any number you want for limiting the number of goals per game for tie-breakers and points (these numbers can be different if needed). Please read the description of each item when you setup your standings for your tournament or league.

Seasonal Options:

  • Track Scores - This must be set to YES in order for the system to keep track of the standings for your tournament or league.

  • Use team bonus/penalty points - If you need to add extra points that the system can't keep track of or take away points, this must be set to YES.

  • Hide bonus/penalty points - If you want to keep all bonus and penalty points hidden from the public, set this to YES. Otherwise, leave it on NO and it will show up in the standings.

  • Average all points per game - when all teams do not play the same number of games, this is a way to compare their performance: Pts/GP

  • Limit "Head to Head" to only 2 teams - many rules say that head-to-head will not be observed if more than two teams are tied with the same number of points - use this option to match the rules

  • Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy - This limits the number of goals to be used in tie-breakers. Under the standings display you can opt to show GFy (goals for), GAy (goals against), and GDy (goal differential). The "y" at the end of each of these items needs to be changed to the number you're using. If this item is set to 4 then you would modify the abbreviation within the Standings Display to GF4, GA4, and GD4.

Point Values:

  • Points per WIN - enter the number of points for each win

  • Points per TIE - enter the number of points for a tie

  • Points per LOSS - enter the number of points for a loss

  • Points per shut-out Win - enter the number of points for a shut-out win

  • Points per shut-out Tie- enter the number of points for a shut-out tie

  • Points only: limit goals per game for GFx, GAx, GDx - This limits the number of goals to be used for points. Under the standings display you can opt to show GFx (goals for), GAx (goals against), and GDx (goal differential). The "x" at the end of each of these items needs to be changed to the number you're using. If this item is set to 4 then you would modify the abbreviation within the Standings Display to GF4, GA4, and GD4.

  • Points per Goal (limit max goals) - How many points per goal up to a max # of goals which is listed under Points only: limit goals per game for GFx, GAx, GDx.

  • Points per Extra Goal (limit max + goal diff only) - The easiest way to think about the meaning of "Extra Goal" is that it is similar to Goal Differential, but something that only winners can have. In other words, it is the excess goals that one team scores over another. In a 4-1 score, the winner has a +3 GD, and the loser has a -3 GD, however while the winner also has a +3 EX, the loser gets 0 EX (rather than -3). This best fits certain tournament scoring rules where the winner for instance gets 6 points for the win, plus one point per goal differential. However, the loser in this scheme gets zero points for that game, not -3 points.

  • Points per Goal Differential (limit max goals) - How many points per goal differential up to a max # of goals which is listed under Points only: limit goals per game for GFx, GAx, GDx.

  • Points per Goals Against (limit max goals) - How many points per goal against up to a max # of goals which is listed under Points only: limit goals per game for GFx, GAx, GDx.

  • Official Scores - enforce Goal Differential maximum - It is used to cap any score entered on a game in that season to a limited goal differential. For example, if you want a GD maximum of 4 goals, then a score entered as 7-1 would automatically be recorded as 5-1, no matter how the score is entered (by a team, by Phone It In, etc.). Note: this is a stronger setting than the settings above it, which make calculations based on maximum GD, but leave the official score as entered. This setting always lowers the higher score to the limit set by the administrator.

Tie Breaker Values:

  • Most head-to-head points - who has the most points when playing head-to-head

  • Most wins - who has the most wins overall

  • Fewest losses - who has the fewest losses overall

  • Most ties - who has the most ties overall

  • Most goals scored - who scored the most goals

  • Fewest goals allowed - who allowed the fewest goals

  • Most goal differential -

  • Most shutouts (including shutout draws) -

  • Most shutout wins -

  • Most goal diff - limit max per game (TB) - this uses the number set under Seasonal Options for Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy

  • Most goals for - limit max per game (TB) - this uses the number set under Seasonal Options for Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy

  • Fewest goals against - limit max per game (TB) - this uses the number set under Seasonal Options for Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy

  • Most extra goals - limit max per game (TB) - this uses the number set under Seasonal Options for Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy

  • Most extra goals - limit max per game (TB) + SO wins - this uses the number set under Seasonal Options for Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy

  • Fewest expulsions - This is used in conjunction with match reports.

  • Fewest disciplinary points - This is used in conjunction with match reports.

  • Fewest games played

Standings Display:

Check off the items you want the system to calculate. Make sure you DON'T check off any items that say DONT USE. For those items labeled as GFy, GAy, GDy, GFx, GAx, GDx, you will want to change the X and/or the Y to the number you listed within Seasonal Options and Points Values. For example, if you entered a 4 under Tie-breakers only: limit goals per game for GFy, GAy, GDy you will change the labels from GFy, GAy, and GDy to GF4, GA4, and GD4. The same is true for Points only: limit goals per game for GFx, GAx, GDx. If you entered 3 in that box, you will change GFx, GAx, and GDx to GF3, GA3, and GD3.

NOTE: Make sure you do NOT select any items under Standings Display that say DON'T USE. They are no longer active and do not work.

NOTE: If you need to use W+ for when overtime/extratime victories get less points than standard victories, please contact Support to have that particular option added in.

Please contact Support if you have questions about setting up your individual Standings.
