Utilizing field permits correctly can be tricky, but it's best to understand how your fields work to determine the best way to create your permit groups. There are three main ways you can do create a permit group.
NOTE: You can only select ONE permit group per division or per team. So how they should be setup really depends on how your fields work. If your fields go with certain clubs, then you'll want to create permits based on field names (option #3). If your fields are by age group then you can do either Option 1 or 2, it just depends which one you feel more comfortable with.
Option 1 -- One large Permit Group. It's typically named after your tournament/league.
Within this large permit group, we'll call it 2008 Tournament/League, all of your fields will be listed. This means every field will be listed at least once with dates, times, age groups, and gender. You can always have multiple field permits for the same field. So if Under 8 Boys can play on the field in the morning and U10 Boys can play on it in the afternoon, you'll need two separate field permits for the same field. You will select this one permit group, 2008 Tournament/League, for every single division.
Option 2 -- Multiple Permit Groups broken up into age groups.
If your fields are more complicated and you want more control over fields per age group or division you will want to use this option. Each permit group would be named after the division. Examples include but are not limited to: Under 8, Under 10 Boys, Under 12 Girls Gold. Within each permit group would be fields with specific information for that single division. So the highest and lowest age group would be this division's age, only this gender can play on it, and the field dates/times would be specific to this age group. Fields can be listed in multiple permit groups. You would select a different permit group for each division. However, there are cases where the same permit group would be selected for multiple divisions (maybe U10 Boys and U10 Girls use the same fields at the same times).
Option 3 -- Permit Groups by Club
This option is most beneficial when clubs have home fields and you want their home games played on their home field. You would divide the permit groups by clubs and list all the information necessary. When scheduling, you would select the permit groups for each team rather than for an entire division. This guarantees that the home team plays on their home field.
