Overview
In order to sign in to your Meta VR devices (such as a Quest2 or Rift Headset), you will need to create a Meta Account and Meta Horizon Profile.
A Meta Account allows you to access VR content, while a Meta Horizon Profile is how you appear in VR to others using a virtual avatar.
This is a new requirement released by Meta in August 2022 and means that users:
Can view and manage downloaded VR content in one place
Are not required to use Facebook to log in to Meta VR devices
Will need to transition any existing accounts that use Facebook or Oculus to access VR devices
This guide will explain how to create a Meta Account under the following circumstances:
New VR User
Currently Using a Facebook Account to sign in to VR devices
Currently Using an Oculus Account to sign in to VR devices
New User Setting up a Meta Account
If you are a new Meta VR user, you can set up your Meta account using an email address, Facebook account, or Instagram account.
If you are setting up your Meta account using an email address, you will need to provide:
Email Address - You can only create one Meta account per unique email address
First and Last Name
Birthday - For country-specific age restrictions
Password - At least 8 characters
To get started, download the Oculus mobile app on your phone and follow the on-screen instructions, or visit auth.meta.com to create your account.
Currently Using Facebook to Sign In to VR Devices
If you currently use a Facebook account to sign in to your VR devices, you will still need to create a Meta Account and Meta Horizon Profile.
Please ensure that you are on the latest software version for both your VR headset and the Oculus mobile app before continuing.
To get started, visit meta.com/websetup on your mobile phone or computer. Log in with your Facebook account, and follow the on-screen prompts to create your Meta Account. You can choose to link your Facebook and Meta Accounts, or remove Facebook and use email instead.
After completing your Meta Account setup, you will need to pair your VR device. Put on your VR headset to find your pairing code and enter the code at meta.com/device.
Finally, review your Meta Horizon profile and privacy settings in-headset to control how you appear in VR to others using a virtual avatar.

You will be able to continue logging in to your VR device with an Oculus Account until January 1, 2023. After this date, you will need to create a Meta Account and Meta Horizon Profile to continue using your devices.
