TigerDesigner: Overview

TigerDesigner is the design tool used to create a Fully Editable Documents. It empowers you to create stunning, professional content using a range of panels, including Text, Image and Lists.

Fully Editable designs give you full control, so we strongly recommend reading this section to become familiar with TigerDesigner.

Left-hand menu

1. Home icon

When you are ready to exit TigerDesigner, select the Home icon. You can 'Exit' without exporting your changes (don't worry, they will still be saved!) or select ‘Update Document’ which will pull the changes through so they can be seen when you view the Document outside of Designer. 2. Document Tools

Two options are available within the Document Tools section - 'Grid Settings' and 'Select Default Branding'.

  • Grid Settings control the spacing of the grid lines and visibility of the grid on each page. They are used to help position the panels and interactivity that you add.

  • Selecting a Default Branding will apply your organisations colours and fonts in the Settings for panels and interactivity, making it quicker and more efficient to create on brand documents. Find out more about Branding and Fully Editable Documents.

3. Inventory Tools

A range of options are available within the Inventory Tool section.

  • Inventory
    Upload your own images using the small cog icon to the top right-hand side or purchase images from the Getty Stock Library. A filter can be found at the top of your Inventory making it easier to find what you’re looking for. Search by keyword, images used in your design, flagged or those that have been added from the Getty Stock Library.

  • Upload Fonts
    Keep your Documents on brand by uploading your choice of fonts. Any fonts you upload can be used in a Text, Story or List panel.

Font files should be .TTF and you must be sure that you have the rights to use them.

  • Stock Library
    A shortcut to the Getty Stock Library Search, making it quicker and more efficient and to find the images you wish to purchase.

  • Checkout
    Unlimited content tokens are available in your account. but any Getty Stock Images must still be purchased if you wish to use them without a watermark. Use the 'Checkout' to choose which images you wish to use.

  • Resources Manager
    The Resources Manager is used to manage the files you wish to use in the Interactivity of your Document, for example, in a More Information pop-up box. Files can be uploaded to an individual Version or a Document, making it available to all Versions stored it.

  • Data Resources Manager
    The Data Resources Manager is used to manage the spreadsheet files that you wish to use in Charting module. Find out more about the Charting module.

4. Designer Interface options

This section is used to control the look and feel of TigerDesigner, making it a more personal experience for you and your colleagues.

  • Designer Theme Colour
    Select if you would like to view TigerDesigner in Light or Dark Mode. The brightness of a Light theme can enhance mood and creativity, whereas a Dark theme can help reduce eye strain. Which mode you choose will depend on your personal requirements and preferences.

  • Panel Highlight Colour
    Select which colour you would like to show when you hover over a panel on a page. Think about the design of your Document and which colours you will be using - for example, if your design is primarily blue, you may wish to choose a contrasting highlight colour, such as orange.

  • Module Highlight/Snap Guide Colour
    Choose which colour is used for grid lines and the interactivity added into your Document. As with Panel Highlight Colour, it can help to think about the design of your Document and which colours you will be using - for example, if your design is primarily blue, you may wish to choose a contrasting highlight colour, such as orange.

  • Tooltip Mode
    Tooltips show in the bottom right-hand corner of TigerDesigner and provide helpful information about the area you are using. You can choose here if you would the tooltips to always display, display on hover, or be hidden.

5. Export

Export the design of your Document to a PDF file using the 'Export to PDF' option. This can be useful if you wish to print the design out, view offline or add it to a piece of interactivity in another Document.

The PDF file contains the Design of your Document only - Interactivity cannot be included, as it requires an internet connection to work.

Tabs

When activated, the tabs at the top of TigerDesigner will change what you can do, for example, if you wish to make changes to the interactivity in your Document, ensure the 'Interactivity' tab is selected.

1. Design

Add and edit the panels in your Document. For example, you can add a Text panel, resize and reposition it.

2. Content

Edit the content of the panels in your Document. For example, you can edit a Text panel and change the content, but you can’t move or resize the panel.

3. Interactivity

Add and edit the interactivity of your Document.

4. Page Preview

This option is ideal for when you want to view and check the content for the specific page that you are working on. As you work on your content you'll find that you use this option regularly. Find out more about previewing.

5. Version Preview

The recommended option when you wish to view every page along with any additional settings, such as a security rule, style or menu. Any elements such as mandatory interactivity and automation will be fully tested this way, and you'll get the same experience that a visitor would. Find out more about previewing.

Panels Palette

One of the most important features of TigerDesigner! Use this palette when you want to add a new panel to your page, such as an Image or Shape. Choose from five panel types (Text, Story, Image, Shape and List), and click and drag out the area to add to your page. Each panel has a Settings palette which used where the settings can be configured, such as colour, size and position.

Modify Panels Palette

Use this palette to modify the panels on your page. For example, delete, copy or align the position of more than one panel.

💡 The Panels and Modify palettes are 'floating’, so you can reposition them within TigerDesigner if needed.

Right-hand Palettes

Settings

This palette will be activated when a panel added to your page is selected. Once activated you can configure the settings for the panel, such as choosing the font type, border colour, margin size and so on.

Layers

Any panels in your design will be listed in the Layers Palette. From here you can rename and reorder the panels, as well as hide or lock them. Choose an option below to find out more:

Pages

Use this palette to manage the pages in your Document, for example:

  • Add a page

  • Delete a page

  • Duplicate a page

  • Re-order pages
