Fully Editable: Locking Content
Updated over a week ago

Locking content is a really useful feature to use when designing a template. It prevents sections of the template from being edited or changed, safeguarding certain elements from being tampered with or accidently altered.

Example

FinerFood use a template for their new starter Induction Packs. To ensure the packs remain consistent and professional, the want to ensure their logo and the cover image don't change. To do this, they simple lock the contents and settings in the template, so when it's used they can't be altered.

How to Lock a Panel

  • Navigate to a Document.

  • Select ‘Design’ for the version of the Document.

  • Click on the panel that you would like to lock.

  • Select the 'Layers' palette found at the top right of your page.

  • Select the padlock icon.

  • You will then see the option to ‘Lock Position & Settings’ and ‘Lock Content’.

  • Tick the required option(s) - more detail below!

Lock Position & Settings

Selecting this option will lock the position and settings of the panel.

For example:

  • You won’t be able to hide the panel as the Position is locked.

  • You won't be able to change the colour of the panel as the Settings are locked.

Lock Content

Selecting this option will lock the content in the panel.

For example:

  • The image cannot be replaced as the Content is locked.

  • The text cannot be altered as the Content is locked.

Example

This short video demonstrates how to lock the logo used in an Image panel, along with the cover image - notice how the panels are no longer editable when the template is used.
