Perifit Care during urinary tract or vaginal infection

Safety guidelines for using the device during infections

Updated over a week ago

NO.

There are a couple of reasons why it's not a good idea to use your Perifit Care while you're still recovering from an infection. First, it's likely to hurt. But it could also make your UTI or vaginal infection symptoms worse and further irritate the tissues affected by the infection.

You can start using Perifit Care again after full recovery.

Perifit Care is made out of medical grade, non-porous silicone and has been biocompatibility tested by independent laboratories to ensure that the materials do not present any irritation or infection risk.

However, research studies have shown that penetration (usually during sexual relations, but this can also apply to penetration with an object or device) can increase the risk of UTI by increasing the chance that bacteria naturally present on the skin outside the urethra gets pushed inside the opening of the vagina.

Generally speaking, increased frequency of penetration inside the vaginal canal, a personal or family history of UTI, changes to the vaginal flora or vaginal lubrication (around menopause, for example), pelvic organ prolapse with voiding problems, and some anatomical factors can increase the risk of UTI.

In addition to thoroughly washing your hands before and after using the Perifit, and cleaning the Perifit thoroughly after each use, users who experience UTI may also benefit from washing the vulva and perineum before and after penetration. This can help avoid pushing bacteria present on the skin into the vaginal canal while positioning and inserting the device.
