Discomfort or pain while using Perifit Care
Updated over a week ago

Experiencing discomfort or pain is definitely a deal breaker when exercising with a device like Perifit Care, even despite all the benefits of regular pelvic floor training. Perifit Care was specifically designed with women's health specialists for comfortable use, and therefore you normally shouldn't feel any discomfort during training. However, if you are feeling discomfort, don't despair. Understanding the underlying reason will most of the time help you find the appropriate solution and get back to comfortable training in no time.

What can cause pain or discomfort?

  • Size: Every woman is unique, and so is every anatomy. Sometimes, especially when your vaginal cavity is smaller or shorter than average, Perifit Care simply won't be a good fit. If you feel like size is the problem, there is not much we can do for the moment. We recommend you to contact the Perifit Care support team and get a refund.

  • Too much training: Is there such a thing as too much training? The answer is yes! Just like overdoing your fitness routine at the gym can get in the way of your fitness goals, too much pelvic floor training may result in muscular fatigue. It’s possible to feel muscle soreness after overtraining. If you didn't do Kegels before starting to use Perifit Care, it could be a good idea to limit yourself to very short sessions, such as 5 minutes per day, and gradually build up to longer sessions. If you feel like you are experiencing overtraining induced pain, the solution is simply to rest for a couple of days, and restart training with 5 minute limited sessions every two days.

  • Not enough lubricant: Some women find the Perifit Care more comfortable to insert with a drop of water-based lubricant. This may be especially true around and after menopause. If you do use lubricant, start with just a drop: too much lubricant may cause your Perifit Care to slide out so look don't get too enthusiastic about the amount of lubricant you apply :) The right amount is just enough for a comfortable insertion.

  • Vaginal dryness: Vaginal dryness is a common condition that can have various physical or psychological causes. It's intimately linked to vaginal microbiota, estrogen levels, etc. If you are affected by vaginal dryness, the first reflex is to use an additional amount of water based lubricant. But we definitely recommend consulting a gynaecologist for a long term solution that fits your particular condition.

  • Menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms: Menopause is an important transition for the body and it may induce a number of symptoms such as vaginal dryness, oversensitive vaginal mucosa, destabilized microbiota, etc. Some of these symptoms may start during the perimenopause, which is a transitional period before the menopause. Most of the symptoms stated above often result in aching feeling or irritation when inserting external devices into the vaginal cavity or during sex. A number of solutions exist to ease the menopausal transition, and we strongly recommend you to consult a gynecologist to find the solution that best fits your particular condition.

  • Oversensitive vaginal microbiota: An increasing number of studies show strong correlation between vaginal microbiota equilibrium and frequency of yeast infections as well as conditions like vaginal dryness, vaginosis, dyspareunia, stress incontinence, pelvic pain, bladder infections, etc. One important factor that may cause a change in your vaginal microbiota is menopausal transition. But other factors exist. If you are experiencing frequent yeast infections, pelvic pain, vaginal dryness, you may be subject to vaginal microbiota troubles. In this case, solutions exist and it's a good idea to seek counsel from a qualified women's health specialist.

  • Allergy to silicone: Although Perifit Care is made with a medical grade, lab tested materials, some women may experience allergy to silicone. This is a rare but existing condition. Allergy often goes along with inflammation and the feeling that the whole vaginal cavity is swollen. In case of allergy, you can still be using Perifit Care with a regular condom.

What should you do if you have tried it all?

You can try using the device with a condom. If you're still feeling pain, stop using Perifit Care and contact our support team. But more importantly, we strongly recommend you to contact a women's health specialist to determine the root cause of the problem.
