How customers install a loyalty card in Google Wallet

Understand how your customers add your loyalty card to Google Wallet on their Android device.

Overview

Customers using Android devices can add your loyalty card directly to Google Wallet for quick access alongside their other passes and payment cards. The process is straightforward β€” the customer scans your QR code, fills in their details, and taps a button to add the card.

Tip: Google Wallet supports push notifications, so your customers will receive your promotions and transactional updates directly through their wallet.

The customer installation flow

Step 1: Open the card installation form

The customer opens your card installation link or scans the QR code using their camera app. This opens the card issuing form on their phone.

Step 2: Fill in their details

The customer fills in the fields you configured in your card issuing form. By default, this includes:

  1. First Name

  2. Last Name

  3. Contact Number

  4. Email

Any fields you marked as required must be completed before the customer can proceed.

Step 3: Add the card to Google Wallet

  1. The customer taps Install in Google Wallet.

  2. The card loads in Google Wallet. The customer taps Add to save it.

  3. The customer taps Open App to view the card in Google Wallet.

The card is now installed and ready to use.

Step 4: View card details

Once installed, the customer can open Google Wallet and tap on the loyalty card to view their barcode, transaction history, stamp or point balance, available rewards, card terms, and your active links (website, social media, phone, email).

Can a customer use both Google Wallet and PWA?

Yes. A customer can install the card in both Google Wallet and as a PWA. Both reflect the same card data and both support push notifications.
