Overview

A PWA (Progressive Web App) card installs directly on your customer's Android home screen and behaves like a native mobile app β€” without requiring an app store download. PWA is a great installation option for Android users, offering push notification support and easy access from the home screen.

The customer installation flow

Step 1: Open the card installation form

The customer opens your card installation link or scans the QR code using their camera app. This opens the card issuing form on their phone.

Step 2: Fill in their details

The customer fills in the fields you configured in your card issuing form. By default, this includes:

  1. First Name

  2. Last Name

  3. Email

  4. Phone Number

Any fields you marked as required must be completed before the customer can proceed.

Step 3: Install on the home screen

  1. The customer taps Install on Home Screen.

  2. A push notifications confirmation screen appears. The customer taps Enable to receive your push notifications.

Step 4: Add the card to the home screen

The next step varies slightly depending on the customer's browser:

Using Chrome (recommended)

  1. A pop-up window appears with an Install button. The customer taps Install.

  2. A second confirmation popup appears with two options β€” Install and Create Shortcut. The customer taps Install.

  3. The card installs on their device after a few seconds.

Using other browsers

  1. The customer taps the menu icon in their browser.

  2. They look for Install App or Add to Home Screen (depending on the browser) and tap it.

  3. The card installs on their device.

Step 5: Access the card

After installation, the card icon appears on the customer's home screen. Tapping the icon opens their loyalty card.

FAQs

Why do you recommend PWA over Google Wallet for Android?

Both methods support push notifications and work well. PWA is a good choice because it installs directly on the home screen like a native app, making it easy for customers to access. Google Wallet is convenient for customers who prefer keeping everything in one wallet app. Either option works.

A customer says they didn't get the push notification prompt β€” what happened?

The notification prompt appears immediately after tapping Install on Home Screen. If the customer dismissed it, they can manage notification permissions through their phone's app settings for the PWA.

The customer can't find the Install button β€” what should I tell them?

We recommend using Chrome, which shows the install prompt automatically. In other browsers, the customer may need to tap the browser's menu icon and look for Install App or Add to Home Screen. The exact wording varies by browser.

Can a customer install both the PWA and Google Wallet versions?

Yes. Both will reflect the same card data and both support push notifications.
