How to scan cards and process transactions

Learn how to scan customer loyalty cards, search for customers, and process transactions using the Scanner app.

Overview

The Scanner app lets you process loyalty card transactions in two ways: scanning a customer's QR code directly, or searching for them by their personal details. Once you've found the customer, you can add stamps, credit points, deduct visits, enter purchase amounts, or redeem rewards — depending on the card type.


Scanning a customer's card

  1. Open the Scanner app and tap the Scan button.

  2. Grant camera access if prompted.

  3. Point your camera at the customer's QR code or barcode on their loyalty card.

  4. The customer's card details load automatically.

  5. Process the transaction (add stamps, credit points, enter purchase amount, etc.).


Finding a customer without scanning

If a customer doesn't have their phone or you need to process a transaction remotely, you can search for them manually.

  1. Tap Search Customers on the Scanner app home screen.

  2. Search by any of the following:

    • Name — Type the customer's first or last name. You can narrow results by adding the last name

    • Phone number — Enter the customer's phone number

    • Email — Enter the customer's email address

    • Card serial number — Enter the serial number directly on the home screen or through the search

  3. Select the correct customer from the results.

  4. Select the appropriate card if the customer has more than one.

  5. Process the transaction.

Tip: You can also enter a card serial number directly on the Scanner app home screen without tapping Search Customers.


Processing a transaction

After scanning or finding a customer, the transaction screen shows the customer's card details. Depending on the card type, you can:

  • Stamp card — Add stamps and enter the purchase amount

  • Multipass card — Deduct visits

  • Cashback card — Enter the purchase amount to credit cashback points

  • Discount card — Enter the purchase amount to track spending toward the next tier

  • Reward card — Add points or redeem available rewards

  • Gift card — Deduct points from the balance

  • Coupon card — Redeem the coupon

  • Membership card — Log a visit or check membership status

After completing the transaction details, confirm to process it. You'll see a success confirmation once the transaction is recorded.


FAQs

Can I process a transaction without the customer being present?

Yes. Use the Search Customers feature to find them by name, phone number, email, or card serial number. This lets you add stamps, credit points, or process transactions remotely.

What if multiple customers have the same name?

The search results will show all matching customers. You can narrow the results by adding the last name, or identify the correct customer by their phone number or card details.

Does the Scanner app work for all card types?

Yes. The Scanner app works with all Perkstar card types — stamp, multipass, cashback, discount, reward, gift, coupon, and membership.
