Best practices for storing, managing and exporting images in Pitchly
Accumulating quality images is a vital aspect of data collection. Follow the guide below to ensure that images are stored and exported in the most efficient way.
Field and file types:
To add an image in Pitchly, first make sure you are using the correct field type. The attachment field allows you to add any type of file attachment, including image files. Logos and headshots are stored using this field type.
Accepted image file types are .svg, .gif, .png, .jpeg, .webp, .psd, .bmp, .eps and .tif.
To determine which file types are best for your needs, view our article on image quality. If you are unsure, we suggest using .png as your go-to image file type.
Please note: Attachments should not exceed 1GB per file stored in a single record. This size limit applies to any type of attachment (images and/or documents).
Preparing images:
Prior to uploading images to Pitchly, determine how you would like them to appear when exported. Take into consideration the image's shape and orientation (square, circle, landscape or portrait). It's important to crop out unnecessary white space surrounding your images. This ensures the image fits properly into its designated placeholder box in Elements app templates. Extra space may result in logos appearing smaller when exported. Pitchly offers limited editing editing capabilities (such as crop, circular crop, and rotate) before uploading. You can also use an alternative editing software to prepare your images.
Image scaling:
Images larger than 3300px by 3300px will automatically scale when exported from the Elements app. This preserves the quality of high-resolution images.
Upload images:
Click the arrows to open and edit the record.
In the expanded record, click on the image. Click Add if there is no image file.
Alternatively, triple-click the image field cell directly within the table view.
From the Upload Image window, you can upload an image file locally saved to your device, drag and drop an image from a browser window or paste files. You also have the option to enter an image URL, perform a web search or upload an image directly from Facebook, Instagram or Google Drive.
Once you select an image, you will have the option to crop, apply a circular crop or rotate the image.
Click Upload to add to your record or Reset to revert to the original format.
Please note: All cropping and image rotation must take place prior to upload. It is not possible to crop or edit images already added to records directly from within the platform.
Remove an existing image or download an image link:
From within an expanded record, click the trash icon to remove an image file or the download icon to retrieve the image link.
View images from within a table:
While browsing in a table, images will display as thumbnails in a field cell. Hovering over an attachment field will enlarge the image.
Thumbnails will display for all of Pitchly’s accepted image types.
Uploading images in bulk:
Pitchly's import tool enables multiple images to be loaded to the system at once. All relevant data related to the image should be stored in a spreadsheet and should at minimum include:
1. The image stored as a URL. For example, this link points to a Pitchly logo. The URL in the browser window is what should be placed in the spreadsheet to import into Pitchly.
2. Make sure that each file has a consistent unique identifier field, such as a name or entity ID. This will help keep data organized and easily searchable.
Pitchly offers the service of converting image files to URLs to prepare for bulk import, however this process requires the unique identifier to be stored in the file's naming convention and separated by a delimiter should other text or characters accompany the identifier in the naming convention, for example, "Pitchly_123456.png". This enables our team to isolate the unique identifier and associate the URL with the correct record within the platform.
