About Platter % Taxes

Updated this week

Overview

This article explains how % Taxes work in Platter, how tax settings are linked to categories, and how items automatically inherit the correct tax based on their assigned category.

Prerequisites

  • Manager or Admin access

  • Access to Platter Back Office

Steps

  1. Navigate to Settings > Restaurant Settings.

  2. Tap the first option: % Taxes.

  3. Review the built-in tax options available in Platter:

    • Meals – 13% HST (Rebate on prepared meals $4.00 and under)

    • Alcoholic Beverages – 13% HST

    • Non-Alcoholic Beverages – 13% HST (Rebate when purchased with meals $4.00 and under)

    • No Tax

  4. When creating or editing a Menu Category, select the appropriate tax option.

  5. Once the tax is assigned to a category, all items created under that category will automatically inherit the same tax.

  6. Save your changes and allow the POS to sync.

Troubleshooting

  • If taxes are not applied, check that the correct tax option is selected in the category settings.

  • Confirm the category is active.

  • Ensure the POS device is connected to the internet to receive the latest updates; if not, set it up.
