Updated over a week ago

Custom Dashboards 2.0 introduces new chart types, improved flexibility, and updates to how dashboard elements work. This article walks through what’s new, what’s changed, and what to expect.

What’s New

More chart types

You can now choose from a wider range of visualizations, including:

  • Stacked bar charts

  • 100% stacked bar charts

  • Area charts

  • 100% area charts

Mixed charts (bars + lines)

You can combine bars and lines in a single chart:

  • Use “Customize series” to define how each metric is displayed.

Chart comparisons

You can now add comparisons directly to charts, making it easier to analyze trends over time.

Filters & locked date ranges for cards (formerly Key Indicator Sections)

Metric Cards and Sparkline Cards now support:

  • Custom filters

  • Locked date ranges

Build dashboards with AI (now available to all users)

You can now create dashboards using Ask Polar.

⚠️ Important Changes

Lines and bars are now separate chart types

Previously:

  • Bars = entire range

  • Lines = time-based granularity (Daily/Weekly/Monthly)

Now:

  • Bars and lines are separate options

👉 For existing charts:

  • We automatically assign a chart type when possible

  • If unclear, you’ll be prompted to choose one

  • Your selection will apply to the entire team

Key Indicators are now “Cards”

Key Indicators have been renamed and split into two types:

Metric Cards

  • Display a single value

  • Equivalent to Key Indicators without charts

Sparkline Cards

  • Include a small trend chart

  • Equivalent to Key Indicators with charts

👉 What happens to existing dashboards:

  • All Key Indicators are converted to Metric Cards

  • Charts are no longer shown by default

⚠️ If you previously had charts enabled:

  • They may appear to be missing

  • To restore them, edit the block and switch to Sparkline Cards

“Show charts” option removed

To ensure consistency across teams:

  • The toggle for “show charts” has been removed

  • Chart visibility is now controlled by the card type (Metric vs Sparkline)

Gift card handling updated

We’ve changed how gift cards are handled to ensure consistency across dashboards and reports.

New behavior:

  • New accounts:

Existing dashboards:

  • Previous Key Indicators that excluded gift cards will now:

    • Include an explicit filter: Gift Card = false

New Metric Cards:

  • Do not exclude gift cards by default

⚠️ This may create differences between old and new cards—review your filters if needed.

New way to build cards

The old Key Indicator Builder has been removed.

Now:

  • Use Card Grids to build metric sections

  • Cards are created using the Custom Report Builder

  • Templates are available in the sidebar

⚠️ Changes for AI Dashboard Beta Users

Some advanced beta features are temporarily unavailable:

  • Query merging/chaining

    • Blocks using this will no longer load

  • Formulas inside blocks

    • Metric/Sparkline Cards will prompt you to create a custom metric instead

    • Other blocks using formulas will need to be replaced

  • Chart conversions

    • Radar charts → converted to bar charts

    • Polar charts → converted to doughnut charts

  • AI Analysis blocks

    • These are currently hidden
