If you'd like to gain quick insight into your performance for any of your metrics by days of the week, you can use our "DayName" or "DayofWeek" Custom Dimensions to break down your data by weekday. This data can help you identify trends in performance, and enable you to make better sales and marketing decisions.

How-To: Compare Data by Weekdays

Step 1: Launch the Custom Dimension builder.

Step 2: In your "When" statement, add the metric you'd like to break down your data by. We most commonly see users opted to break down the data by "Processed date" from Shopify here. Note that the date rule you set for "Processed Date" doesn't really matter, as long as you have a large enough date range to analyze the dates you're interested in. For example, you can enter:

Processed Date is not empty

Step 3: In your "Then" statement, enter:
โ€‹

DayName (The same dimension you entered above)

You can also use the "DayofWeek" dimension, which assigns a numerical value to the weekdays, with 0 being Sunday and 6 being Saturday, if you'd prefer to visualize the data numerically.

Step 4: You can enter anything you'd like in your "Else" statement, to dictate what is returned when your "When" statement rule isn't met.

Step 5: Apply your Custom Dimension anywhere within the app to see your data broken down by weekday. Keep in mind that if you use the DayofWeek function (rather than DayName), the days pull through on a numerical scale - see the key below to identify which day corresponds with each number.

Day of Week Key:

  • 0 = Sunday

  • 1 = Monday

  • 2 = Tuesday

  • 3 = Wednesday

  • 4 = Thursday

  • 5 = Friday

  • 6 = Saturday

For example, if you'd like to break down your Total Sales by the day of the week they were processed (to see your typical highest sales days for a given date range), you can replicate the Custom Dimension below:

From there, once you apply this in a Custom Report, you can add this dimension as a break down in a Custom Report to quickly gain insight into your top sales days. In the example report below, Fridays were the top sales day (for the set date range), and Wednesdays were the lowest sales day.

If you have any questions about how to leverage Custom Dimensions to break down or filter your data, take a look at our Custom Dimensions guide here. You can also reach out to our Support Team via the in-app live chat for further assistance.
