Polar Analytics uses a numerical format by default to show you dates. If you'd prefer to view the names of the months instead when viewing your Custom Reports, you can use a Custom Dimension to reformat the dates.

You can replace the numeric date with the name of the month (for example, instead of 05-01-2023, you could see "January"), or you can use the name of the month and a year (for example, instead of 05-01-2023, you could see "January 2023").

How-To: Rename Dates with a Custom Dimension

Step 1. Launch the Custom Dimension builder.

The first step is to launch the Custom Dimension builder to create a dimension that will group your channels based on the logic that you dictate. You'll be able to use the dimension to both break down and filter your data.

You can launch the Custom Dimension builder here.

Step 2. Create your "When" statement.

In the first "When" block, pick "Date" from a shared group. From there, add the rule "contains" and the text -01-.

Step 3. Create your "Then" statement to determine how you'd like to rename the months.

If you want to simply show the name of the month, then you would simply write the name of the month in the "Then" block.

Alternatively, if you want to see both the name of the month and the year, follow the recording below to add the Concat formula:

Repeat this same process of adding additional "When - Then" blocks for all other months.

Step 4. Create your "Else" statement to determine what you'd like to return when your "When" conditions aren't met.

After setting up your Custom Dimension, remember to add a dimension to the "Else" block. We recommend adding "Date" from the shared group, like this:

Step 5. Name and save your dimension.

Once you've configured the correct rules within your Custom Dimension, ensure that you've given your Custom Dimension a name and save it. From there, your Custom Dimension is now ready to use in all your Custom Reports.
