Understanding the "Cancel Order" Button in Pre-Order Emails

Updated this week

If you receive an order cancellation and notice it shows “PreOrder Now” as the source, that’s expected behavior.

Shopify requires all apps that offer pre-orders (or other purchase options) to include a way for customers to cancel their order if they change their mind.
That’s why the pre-order confirmation email includes a “Cancel Order” link.

When a customer clicks that link, Shopify (not the app) processes the cancellation.
At this time, the cancellation applies to the entire order, not just the pre-ordered item - and that behavior can’t be changed or removed.

In short:

  • The cancel link is required by Shopify.

  • It lets customers cancel their order directly from the email.

  • Clicking it cancels the entire order, not just one item.

  • The link cannot be removed or modified.
