Why did PreOrder Now stop working after I changed themes?

Updated yesterday

If PreOrder Now stopped working after you changed themes, the app usually needs to be rechecked in your new theme. Theme changes can remove app blocks, disable app embeds, or leave your preorder settings active in one theme but not another.

What this looks like

You might notice:

  • the preorder button is missing

  • the preorder message no longer appears

  • the app was working before the theme change

  • preorder is active in the app, but not on the storefront

  • the cart or product page behavior changed after switching themes

Step 1: Confirm which theme is live

In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes and check which theme is currently published.

If you recently switched themes, make sure you are checking the same theme your customers are seeing.

Step 2: Check whether the app embed is enabled

Open the published theme in the Shopify theme editor and check whether the PreOrder Now app embed is turned on.

If the embed is disabled, the app may not load correctly on the storefront.

Step 3: Check the app block placement

If your store uses app blocks, confirm that the PreOrder Now block is still added in the correct place in the new theme.

Make sure:

  • the block is added to the right section

  • the block is enabled

  • the block is placed on the correct product template

A common issue is that the block was set up in the old theme but not re-added in the new one.

Step 4: Test a preorder product on the live theme

Open a product that should show preorder and confirm whether:

  • the preorder button appears

  • the preorder message appears

  • the product page behaves normally

  • the cart is still working as expected

If preorder is missing only on certain products, the issue may be template-specific.

Step 5: Compare the old theme and the new theme

If you still have your previous theme, compare:

  • app embed status

  • app block placement

  • product templates

  • custom code around the product form or cart

This can help confirm what changed during the theme switch.

Step 6: Check for theme compatibility or customizations

If the new theme is heavily customized, or if you recently added other apps that affect the cart or product form, they may be affecting how preorder appears.

This is more likely if:

  • the preorder button disappeared after a theme update

  • the cart started behaving differently

  • only some templates or products are affected

Still not working?

If PreOrder Now is still not working after checking your new theme, contact support and send:

  • your store URL

  • the product page URL

  • the name of the live theme

  • whether the issue started right after a theme switch

  • a screenshot or screen recording of what you are seeing

Once we have that, we can take a closer look at whether the issue is caused by your theme setup, template, or a storefront conflict.
