Getting Started with ProdPro Analytics
ProdPro Analytics is a purpose-built intelligence tool for analyzing TV and film production activity. It gives you access to ProdPro's proprietary production dataset – including estimated budgets, filming locations, studio and distributor data, and production timelines – through a flexible set of views and reports you can configure to your own research needs.
What's in Analytics
Analytics is made up of three main areas:
Dashboard The Dashboard is your home base in Analytics. It displays a set of pre-built charts visualizing key production trends – giving you an immediate read on industry activity without needing to build anything from scratch. All Dashboard visualizations are based on Principal Photography Start date.
Report Builder The Report Builder is where you create custom data tables. You choose which fields appear as your rows and columns, select an aggregation method to determine what the data displays (such as a count of productions or a sum of estimated spend), and apply filters to focus on the slice of data you care about. Reports can be saved, shared, and exported as CSV. See Report Builder Basics for a full walkthrough.
Report Library The Report Library is a collection of pre-built report templates covering common analytical views – such as production volume by region or spend by studio. Templates are a good starting point if you're new to the Report Builder, and can be customized and saved as your own reports.
What data does Analytics cover?
Analytics covers live-action scripted TV and film productions tracked in ProdPro, including series, limited series, pilots, features, and TV movies. It does not include animation, reality, documentary, or sports content. Productions are tracked globally, with filming location data available at the city, state/province, country, and region level.
Budget figures in Analytics are ProdPro's proprietary estimates unless an actual figure is available from a public or trusted source. For more on how these estimates are calculated, see ProdPro Estimated Budget FAQs.
A note on date fields
Analytics gives you more than one way to cut data by time. Year/Month of Principal Photography Start attributes a production's full budget to the date filming began. Year/Month of Filming spreads activity across the entire shoot period, making it better suited for measuring what was actively in production at any given point. Choosing the right one for your analysis makes a meaningful difference – see Understanding Filming Dates for guidance on when to use each.
