What you can’t change after your release is shipped

Can’t edit something after shipping? See what’s locked, like track order and genres, and how to fix it.

Written by Francesca

Once your release has shipped, you can still change most things yourself with Edit / Fix Release. A few things are locked after shipping because they’re tied to royalties, release identifiers, or the way platforms handle releases.

Here’s what you can’t change once your release has shipped:

  • Tracklist order

Track order can’t be changed after shipping. Platforms don’t support reordering tracks on an existing release.

Need to change the order? You can ask us to take your release down by emailing support@protonradio.com, and then recreate it using the Compilation Tool.

  • Adding a track

Forgot to include a track? Once a release has shipped, it is not possible to add a track to it. Some music platforms don’t allow new tracks on an existing release, so this is outside Proton’s control.

See Forget to add a track to your release? for the available options.

  • Hide from Streaming Stores / Hide from DJ Stores

Once Hide from Streaming Stores or Hide from DJ Stores has been selected, it can’t be undone after you ship the release.

If you need to make a hidden track available again, we’ll need to take down the current release. You’ll then need to recreate the full release.

  • Genre Change

Beatport doesn’t support genre changes after a release has shipped, so you can’t change the genre yourself.

To request a genre change, please fill out Beatport’s genre change form. We’re no longer able to submit these requests for you, but if you have questions while filling it out, just let us know.

  • Spotify, Apple Music, and Beatport mappings

Artist profiles can only be connected to Proton when a new artist profile is created.

If your release is connected to the wrong Spotify, Apple Music, or Beatport profile, contact us and we’ll help get it corrected.

  • Removing a track or release

You can’t remove a track or a whole release yourself after it has shipped, but you can ask us to take it down.

If you take down a single track, keep in mind that some platforms, like Spotify, will still show it on the release, greyed out and unplayable. To remove it completely, we’ll need to take down the whole release, and you’ll then recreate it without that track.

Contact us to request a takedown and we’ll talk you through the best option.

What you can still change

Good news: there’s still quite a bit you can fix yourself after shipping.

Using Edit / Fix Release, you can update things like:

  • Cover art

  • WAV files

  • Artist order

  • Track titles

  • Release title

  • Release description

  • Release date

  • Pre-order date

See Help! I made a mistake on your release for more information.

Before you schedule

The easiest way to avoid making changes after shipping is to give everything one final check before you schedule your release.

In particular, make sure these are correct:

  • Tracklist order

  • Artist names and mappings

  • Genres

  • Catalog number

  • Hide from Streaming Stores / Hide from DJ Stores settings

A few of these details are locked once your release ships, so it’s worth taking an extra minute to check them before you ship the release.
