Picking tasks refers to any task that involves the selection, search, and pick of products from storage positions inside the warehouse. Picking tasks are created after processing a sales order in the PULPO WMS Web App. This article will explain how to create and manage the different types of picking tasks.
Choosing the correct type of picking task depending on the sales orders (e.g. single product orders, very large orders, etc) can greatly increase the benefit of using PULPO WMS as the warehouse staff will work even more effectively and efficiently.
After creating or synchronizing a sales order in the PULPO WMS Web App, it will appear on the main screen of the Outgoing orders
option. It can be filtered by date, state, the number of products per order, or any other filter option desired as explained in the Outgoing orders article.
Now, different picking alternatives can be chosen for the listed orders, depending on the type or number of sales orders selected as well as the number of products to be picked. The different picking alternatives are the following:
"Standard" picking task: 1 Sales Order = 1 Picking Task
Select one or multiple sales order(s) from the list in the state
Queue
.
2. One picking task is created for each selected sales order when clicking on the PICKING
button located at the lower right side of the screen.
3. Once the PICKING
button is clicked, the state of the selected outgoing order(s) will change from Queue
to Picking
. The picking task is now available in the PULPO WMS Mobile App and ready to be taken by a Picker.
4. This previous operation will also enable the selected sales order(s) on the Picking
main screen when selecting that option. For visualizing all the created and currently active picking tasks, select the Picking
option from the left side menu of the PULPO WMS Web App.
5. All picking tasks will be listed according to their creation date from the outgoing orders
option. Notice that the picking task creation date can be different from the shipping date. The picking tasks listed should be performed according to cue.
Picking tasks created from outgoing orders will have the state Queue
until the picking task is Taken
, Ended
or Cancelled
by using the PULPO WMS Mobile App.
6. By selecting any listed picking tasks, the detailed information of the order can be visualized on the right side of the screen. The type and number of products, as well as the warehouse, order number, created date, shipment date, and notes can be consulted by navigating through the screen tabs.
"Split" picking task: 1 Order = 2 - N Picking Tasks
Sales orders selected from the outgoing order's main screen can be split into several picking tasks by clicking on the
Split
symbol. This feature is useful for sales orders that are composed of many products and/or must be sent out rapidly, thus benefitting when many Pickers are dedicated to picking all the products of one sales order at the same time.
❗️ NOTE: When selecting the split option, all pickers will be directed to the same packing position once the pick of the last product is done. The packing position is defined by the first picker who completes the task. In the packing position, all products of the order joined and prepared for shipment.
2. Once the Split
option is selected, a new dialog window opens where multiple picking tasks can be created to split the sales order (e.g. Picking 1
, Picking 2
, Picking 3
, etc). Click on the CREATE PICKING
button to create as many picking sub-tasks as desired.
3. When creating a sub-picking task, a picker can be assigned to the task.
4. The product quantities from the order must be split and assigned to the created picking tasks. Type the number of products, according to the order's Left quantity
, to split the order and then click on the "+
" circled button at the right side to assign the typed quantity to the selected picker.
5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 to create another picker for performing the task and assign other product quantities from the split order.
6. When all quantities of products are split and assigned to pickers (Left quantity
is zero and the "+
" button is blocked), the dialog window can be closed by clicking the SPLIT
button at the lower right side of the screen.
7. Similarly, when creating a "Normal" picking task, once the split picking task is created, the selected outgoing order will change the state from Queue
to Picking
. Moreover, the picking task will be enabled and visualized in the Picking
option of the left side menu of the Web App. Detailed information from the split-picking task can be consulted by clicking each picking order from the list.

"Batch" picking task: N Orders = 1 Picking Task

option of the Web App left side menu.
2. Then, select the Batch
picking option located at the lower right side of the screen. This will aggregate the selected orders into one single picking task.

Create a "Cart" picking task from various sales orders
When selecting several orders from the outgoing orders list, a cart picking task can be created. In this case, a picker will perform a picking task for all products of different sales orders in an optimized route across the warehouse.
In contrast to batch picking, where the picker takes all products together and the orders are divided after by different packing tasks, the cart picking process is performed by pre-storing products directly into identifiable (scannable) boxes of a picking cart.
PULPO WMS adapts flexibly to the circumstances of the customer and ensures that the picker always selects the box specified and has to scan it in shortly to avoid confusion.
The cart picking can greatly increase the efficiency of the picking tasks, as several orders are picked at the same time in an optimally pre-sorted method. This feature is especially popular with our e-commerce customers or fulfillment providers for e-commerce customers, where there are often orders with one or a few products.
From the outgoing orders list, select two or more sales orders. Then, click on the "
Cart
" button in the right lower part of the screen.
2. A confirmation dialog will appear
and summarizing the selected orders to be picked as well as the packing task
3. After creating a cart, orders will change their state from Queue
to Picking
in the outgoing orders list. Similarly, cart picking orders will be enabled and summarized in the Picking
option of the left side menu of the Web App. Detailed information from the cart picking task can be consulted by clicking each picking order from the list.
