News Licences Explained

Details the different news licenses supported by Pulsar and the type of data they grant access to

In this article, we'll talk about the news licences available in Pulsar along with examples of outlets that are covered and key points we think you should know about.

We've categorised News licences into two buckets, Online News and Print News.


NLA: Global News

NLA Media Access (Newspaper Licensing Agency) is a publisher-owned rights licensing and publisher services business with the core aim of supporting journalism in the UK.

With this type of licence, you are able to access print and magazine content from the UK, France.

This is a licence you will need to obtain directly from the NLA, it is then configured into your Pulsar account.

CLA: Global News

CLA is a UK collective licensing body and offers licence products that enable copying and reuse of published materials, specifically magazines, journals, books and websites.

CFC: FR News

The CFC is the French Reproduction Rights Organisation representing the rightsholder of books, newspapers, magazines and other periodicals.

CAL, Isentia: AUS Online

The Copyright Agency is an Australian not-for-profit organisation that has been standing up for creators for more than 40 years. They provide Australian Paywalled online news coverage as well as print clips for Australian-based print newspapers

LexisNexis: Global News

LexisNexis global business & news service allows you to quickly find the critical information you need to gain insight into your customers, markets and competitors, enabling you to make informed business decisions and gain a strategic advantage over your competitors.

NLA eClips: UK/FR Print

NLA Media Access (NLA) is a publisher-owned rights licensing and publisher services business with the core aim of supporting journalism. NLA works on behalf of the UK’s newspaper and magazine publishers. NLA licences organisations to make paper and digital copies of newspaper, magazine and news website content.

LexisNexis Print: Global Print

Print data from LexisNexis (LN) is a collection of clipped articles from around the globe, printed in newspapers, journals, magazines etc. of various fame and scopes of distribution. These clipped articles are uploaded and translated into text content, which you can collect via LexisNexis.

CAL, Isentia: AUS Print

PMCA, Isentia: NZ Print

The Print Media Copyright Agency (PMCA) is a trading name of the NZ Press Association Ltd and was established on 1 January 2003 to provide licences to organisations wanting to utilise articles appearing in newspapers and magazines.

The PMCA is a division of the New Zealand Press Association Limited. The PMCA also works in conjunction with the Newspaper Publishers' Association (NPA) – the trade association of the New Zealand newspaper industry.
