Today we’re launching SEARCH, a new product that allows Pulsar customers to instantly find and discover news coverage about any topic, brand or initiative. Initially focused on helping comms professionals find missing media coverage and discovering news stories, SEARCH offers a lightning fast search experience that gets us one step closer to the Universal Scope we’ve promised you with Pulsar 3.0.

SEARCH taps into a global news firehose across all countries, languages and media sources - Online News, Print News, TV, Radio and Podcasts– and unlocks the ability to both quantify and qualify the coverage available for a given topic, as well as quickly find missing coverage from your media monitoring on TRAC. And as if that wasn’t enough, SEARCH interfaces with TRAC, which means users can instantly add any content they locate to their Coverage Reports or searches on TRAC.

This will be the first of many new Pulsar instant data and analytics products, offering hi-fidelity results, not a sample or the top results, and 100% of every single item matching your query is delivered instantly.

Key Features and Functionality

SEARCH offers a delightful and intuitive user interface, taking cues from the everyday search tools you use. It comes packed with neat features to help you quickly zoom in and spot the news coverage you are looking for. You can expect the following features in this release:

Enhanced global searching capabilities

With SEARCH, you’ll be able to instantly find media coverage from anywhere in the world and in any language, at the click of a button, gaining access to the vast number of publications Pulsar has partnered with. And you can even begin to read the story, without having to leave Pulsar! The search function also supports Boolean queries, which is a more efficient way to search for content. Furthermore, users have the option to use filters such as location, data source and date range, to narrow down their queries and identify only the news stories that matter. We’ve also introduced Title-only search, allowing you to quickly find the coverage that puts your brand or topic front and center. Turn on the “title only” toggle and focus your search on what’s most relevant to you.

Seamless integration with TRAC

We acknowledge that sometimes coverage can be missed, or a client may change their mind and want to expand the scope of a given topic they are already monitoring on TRAC. Well we got you covered, as our new SEARCH product directly interfaces with TRAC! This means you can add content you discover from SEARCH to your TRAC monitoring or existing Shortlists. This is a nifty way for plugging any gaps in coverage, as well as sharing that coverage with your stakeholders, via our Coverage Reports!

What else is noteworthy?

  • License and Copyright rules will remain intact - access to this data via SEARCH will be truncated and the ability to add any content that falls under these rules will be disabled for any users who do not have full authorized access.

  • Users can only add content to their existing TRAC searches provided the searches in question are collecting the relevant data sources selected. Put simply, if you want to add an Online News article you’ve found on SEARCH to your TRAC search, that TRAC search should have already been collecting data from Online News, as part of the monitoring setup.

  • Except for language and location, content metrics and enrichments are not available on SEARCH. Any further enrichments and metrics are available only after a piece of content has been added to a TRAC search.

Whilst news coverage is only the beginning, we plan to add more data sources and insights to the product over the coming months. So, we’d love to hear what you think and if you would like to see more features. Please reach out to us via the in-app chat or submit your feedback on Collaborate.
