To get the most out Narratives, it's important to understand how to effectively use the search functionality. In this article, we'll take a deep dive into the search capabilities in Narratives AI.
Searching
The search parameters have been refined to provide more flexibility and specificity in your search queries. The following search parameters are available:
Keyword Query Search: Search for specific topics of interest, such as "Netflix" or "Disney," to analyse associated narratives. Keyword searching supports simple boolean, similar to what is used in Pulsar TRAC or Searches..
Date Range Filter: Specify a date range to analyse how narratives have evolved over time.
Narrative source: Choose between searching for narratives occuring in mainstream media or Public discource (Currently X only)
Keyword Queries and Operators
When searching, you can use a combination of keywords and operators to refine your results. Keywords are the words or phrases you enter to find relevant content. Operators are special symbols or words that help you connect and refine your keywords. By combining keywords and operators, you can create targeted searches to find exactly what you need.
Allowed operators include:
AND
OR
NOT
Parentheses ()
Examples:
Use AND to show narratives containing multiple keywords - eg. climate AND europe AND eu
Use OR to show narratives that match at least one keyword - eg. skiing OR snowboarding OR snow
Use NOT to exclude narratives matching a keyword - eg. apple NOT iphone
All keywords entered will be treated as a phrase, so there is no need to add quotation marks.
Note that up to 200 words can be queried in a single search.
Date filter
By default, the dat filter will be set to the past 30 days. Using the date drop-down, you can either select from one of the quick select date options or set a custom range. Our database contains narratives back to 1st January 2023 and is constanlty building, so you can chose any period from the first narratives collected right up to the present date.
Search Relevance Weighting
Search relevance is crucial to provide the most accurate and useful results. To achieve this, we employ Match Weighings.
Query matches are weighted based on which part of a narrative they match and the count of content matches per narrative. This means that:
A query match with daily or weekly topic in a narrative will have a higher relevance score than a query match with a single context bundle in a narrative.
A query match with two pieces of content in a single narrative will produce a higher relevance score than a match with a single piece of content in a narrative.
This weighting system ensures that results with more comprehensive matches are prioritised, giving you the most relevant information first.
Search History
Access your previous searches to save time and effort in re-entering search strings.
How it works:
Up to 5 searches are remembered, with newer searches replacing the oldest.
A drop-down list displays the past 5 searches in the order of most recent to oldest.
Clicking on a query in the list runs the search.
Sorting Results
Easily refine your search results to find exactly what you're looking for by sorting them in a way that suits your needs.
Sort options:
Most relevant: See the narratives with the highest relevance first. This is based on the proportion of the narrative that matches your search query and its significance compared to other results.
Most significant: See the narratives based on how large they are in comparison to other narratives in the search
Newest: See the narratives with the most recent information
Longest: See the narratives which ran for the longest duration
