Our search results page is designed to help you to quickly find key narratives on any subject and provide a clear understanding of the largest and most impactful discussions over time. This guide will walk you through the following key features to enhance your search experience:

  1. Interpreting Narrative Themes

Identify the main topics being discussed around any subject

  2. Analysing Narrative Results

Uncover the key conversations and sentiment around your search query, and understand the context of the discussions.

  3. Utilising Top Content

Discover relevant and influential sources that drive the narrative

By the end of this guide, you'll be able to:

  • Uncover influential narratives within your search results

  • Extract actionable insights to measure their influence on the discussion

  • Maximize the value of your search results to inform your decisions

Macro & Micro Narrative Views

To give you a deeper understanding of both broad trends and specific discussions, Narratives AI includes two distinct views: Macro for long-term patterns and Micro for real-time, event-focused analysis. These views allow you to track the evolution of conversations over time while also drilling down into the details of specific events.

Note that currently only the Macro view is availble when searching for Public narratives. A Micro view is planned for a future update.

  • Macro Narratives:

    • Provides a high-level view of broader conversations.

    • Ideal for analysing long-term trends across weeks or months.

    • Helps you observe the evolution of major topics and thematic arcs.

  • Micro Narratives:

    • Focuses on more granular, event-specific discussions.

    • Best for tracking real-time conversations or short-term developments.

    • Allows you to identify emerging narratives based on the most recent data.

How it Works:
When viewing your search results, toggle between Macro and Micro views. The Macro view groups data by weekly intervals, allowing you to see broader patterns over time. The Micro view organises data by daily intervals, enabling you to focus on recent and detailed discussions.

By switching between these views, you can analyze both high-level, long-term trends and zoom in on specific events or real-time conversations, providing a comprehensive understanding of any topic.

Narrative themes

Identify and rank the top themes emerging across all the narratives detected around any subject. There are three visualisations to give you at a glance insights into the biggest themes in your search:

Top Themes

A horizontal bar chart displaying the top 10 themes related to your search query, ranked by size (volume of content in all narratvies that are part of the theme). The top themes chart includes the main topics covered by each theme (e.g., "Renewable Energy" or "Carbon Emissions"), and the interest score ranking for that theme.

Media Interest Over Time

The Media Interest Over Time Chart, is a time series chart comparing the media interest in the top 10 themes over a specific period.

Use the chart to find:

  • Peak interest moments for each theme

  • Trends and patterns in media interest

  • The overall media interest trend for all narratives in your search (toggle the total media interest line on/off)

Narrative Distribution

The Narrative Distribution Chart is a versatile visualization that offers two views to help you understand the relationships between narratives within a theme. You can toggle between the Scatter Chart and the Circle Packing Chart.

Scatter Chart

The Scatter Chart shows the relationships between narratives within a theme, allowing you to understand how fragmented or cohesive a theme is, and detect different angles of conversation within a theme. You can also use this chart to navigate narratives in a more visual way and click on the narratives in the chart which you want to view in more detail.

Here is how to read it:

  • When narratives within a theme are widely spread across the chart, this indicates that the theme covers a diverse range of views and perpectives.

  • Themes with narratives closely clustered indicate that the narratives have a similar focus and the conversations are closely related.

  • Some themes will include multiple sub-clusters (seperate groups of narratives within a theme). These sub-clusters can be used to find the different fragments of conversation around the main theme.

Circle Packing Chart

The Circle Packing Chart provides a simplified view of themes and narratives, enabling you to easily identify key themes, trends, and relationships. Using the circle packing chart you can:

  • Gain a holistic view of narratives matching your search and the key themes they're a part of

  • Compare the size of narratives within a theme

  • Compare the size of narratives from different themes

Here's how it works:

  • For each theme, the title of the most representative narrative based on meaning will be displayed

  • Hover over the circles to see the total media interest fro each theme

  • Hover over the bubbles within the theme circles to see details about each narrative.

  • Click on the theme circles to zoom in on the narratives in the theme

  • Click on the narrative bubbles to navigate to the narrative detailed view

Exporting the data

When you find valuable theme insights in the Media Interest Over Time chart or the Narrative distribution chart, you can download the data as an excel file to use it at a later time or to compare themes across different searches. Excel exports of these charts will include the data from the chart as well as the search query used and search filters applied.

Narrative Results

The narrative results display key details to help you identify the prominent narratives you need to know about. Narratives represent clusters of related content that reveal the scope, tone, and evolution of conversations around your search query. By analysing these narratives, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the main themes, trends, and perspectives driving a discussion and identify key narratives you need to pay attention to.

Narrative results also include and AI-Driven explaination, to help you to understand why the subject you're searching fits into a narrative. You'll have the option to quickly generate a clear explanation that analyses the relevant part of the narrative, linking it to your search query and providing contextual insights.

What are the details and what do they tell me?

Each narrative includes:

  • An automated summary - Helping you gain a quick understanding of the narrative’s topic and main points.

  • Contextual Summary - Get a brief summary detailing the connection between your subject of interest and any matching narrative.

  • Most representative images - Providing a visual representation of the narrative, helping you quickly identify the content and tone.

  • Theme label - Pointing out that key topics a narrative is focused on.

  • Date - Identify when the narrative started and how long it ran for.

  • Significance score and percentage of change - Understand the size of the narrative and its growth, as well as how it's trending over time.

  • Volume Trend Chart - See how the narrative has evolved over time, including spikes and dips in attention.

Sorting results

By default the most relevant narratives matching your search will be displayed first, and you can change the sort order to show results based on the following options:

  • Most significant - Narratives with the highest significance score will be displayed first. These are the narratives with the most content contributing to them.

  • Newest - Narratives that occured most recently will be displayed first.

  • Longest - Narratives that ran for the longest duration will be displayed first.

Filter narratives by theme

The theme filter makes it easier for you to find narratives focused on a particular area of interest, streamlining the process of discovering relevant narratives.

Here's how it works:

  • Narrative results display a tag label and colour icon of the theme they are part of

  • Filter narratives results by the themes they are a part of using the buttons or drop-down at the top of the results

  • Once filtered, you can apply changes to the sort order to find the most relevant, most significant, newest or longest narrative within the selected theme

  • Narratives with a low relevance score that are uncategorised will include an uncategorised tag label and cannot be filtered

What is the Significant score?

The “Significance” of a narrative shows how large it is in comparison to other narratives in this search. It is a 1-100 scale based on the amount of content contributing to each narrative within your selected search date range, compared with the total amount of content that is part of all conversations matching your search.

The percentage of change for a narrative calculates if the significance has increased or decreased within the date range of your search. For example, if the first day/week (depending on your dataset) of a narrative in your search had a significance score of 10% and the last day week had a significance score of 20%, and the total volume matching the search for that day/ was 100, then the narrative would be 10% of the day. Then if the volume of first day of the narrative was 20 and the total volume for the search for that day was 100, then the narrative for that day would be 20% of the day.
