We are updating our Media Reach metric on TRAC, introducing a more precise and industry recognised one that will ensure your performance reporting is much easier to understand. The updated Media Reach metric will be derived from Similar Web and in addition to this, we will also be introducing a new metric called Media Impressions, also derived from Similar Web.

What we’re changing

  • At the beginning of July, Media Reach will be updated across Online News and Online Print data. This enhanced metric will be derived from Similar Web’s unique monthly visits to a site.

  • A new metric called Media Impressions will also be introduced and this new metric will be derived from Similar Web’s total monthly visits to a site.

  • We will retire the concept of Actual Social Impressions and Potential Social Impressions and simplify this to just Social Impressions, which is derived from Potential Social Impressions. There will be no changes to how we calculate Social Impressions, apart from the naming convention.

  • Lastly, all relevant charts, filters and exports will also be updated to reflect the updated metrics: Media Reach, Media Impressions, Social Impressions.

What you need to do

We understand these updates, though better for future reporting, may result in discrepancies between your historical Media Reach figures and new data following the update.

So, we’re giving all clients the option to have their data from the past six months re-analysed with the updated Media Reach figures.

If you wish to have your data re-analysed or have any questions about these changes, please reach out to your Account Manager, or contact us via in-platform support. If you do not wish to have your data re-analysed, then you do not need to do anything, these updates will be automatically reflected in new data going forwards.
