Clearing the NinjaTrader 8 cache can help resolve performance issues, especially those related to corrupted or outdated data. Follow the steps below to manually clear the cache.
Steps to Manually Clear the Cache
Step #1: Close NinjaTrader 8
Ensure that NinjaTrader 8 is completely closed before starting this process.
Step #2: Locate the Cache Folder
Open File Explorer.
Navigate to the following directory:
C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\db
Step #3: Delete Cache Files
Inside the db folder, locate and delete the following folders:
cache
tick
minute
day
These folders contain cached and historical data that NinjaTrader 8 will automatically regenerate upon restart.
Warning: Deleting the tick, minute, and day folders removes your locally cached historical data. NinjaTrader will need to re-download this data from your data feed the next time you connect, which can take anywhere from a few minutes to much longer depending on how much historical data you have configured to load (e.g., years of tick data vs. a few days of minute data).
Step #4: Restart NinjaTrader 8
Relaunch NinjaTrader 8.
The platform will rebuild the necessary cache files as it runs.
Important Considerations
Performance Impact
After clearing the cache, initial load times may be longer as NinjaTrader rebuilds its data.
Backup Your Data
Back up any important settings, templates, or custom instruments.
Use NinjaTrader’s built-in backup feature for safe and easy backups.
Regular Maintenance
Periodically clearing your cache helps resolve performance issues, especially those related to corrupted or outdated data.
