If you typed the wrong amount, date, contact, or other details on a donation, you can open that donation and change it. You do not need to delete it and start over. This article covers where to find the donation, which fields you can change, and what to do for the few things the edit form does not cover.
Edit a donation from a contact's profile
This is the fastest way if you know whose donation it is.
Open the contact's profile.
Find the Donations section.
Click the actions icon next to the donation you want to change.
Click Edit.
Update the fields you need to fix.
Click Save Changes.
The donation list updates as soon as you save.
Edit a donation from the Donations page
If you want to scan across all donations, use the main Donations page.
Go to Donations in the navigation.
Find the donation row you need. You can use the table's search and filters to narrow it down.
On the far right of that row, open the actions menu and click Edit.
Update the fields you need to fix.
Click Save Changes.
Which fields you can edit
The Edit Donation window lets you change these fields:
Contact (the person the donation is attached to)
Amount (USD)
Date
Receipt ID
Reference Code
Fundraising Page
Line Item ID
Donor Email
Donor Phone
Tags
Amount and Date are required. The Amount field accepts a number with cents. The Date field is a date input.
Reassigning a donation to a different contact
If you attached the donation to the wrong person, you do not need to delete it. In the Edit Donation window, use the Contact field at the top. Start typing a name (at least two letters) to search your contacts, pick the right person, then click Save Changes. The donation moves to that contact.
Fixing other details (donor name, address, occupation, employer, recipient)
The Donations table shows more columns than the edit form covers, such as donor name, address, city, state, zip, country, occupation, employer, and recipient committee. These values are stored on the donation, but the Edit Donation window does not include input boxes for all of them. If you need to correct one of those values, contact support so they can help you update it.
Marking a donation as refunded
There is no "mark as refunded" button on a donation you entered by hand. When a refund comes back automatically from ActBlue or Stripe, the donation shows a Refunded label and the amount appears with a line through it. If you need a manually entered donation marked as refunded, contact support.
Managing tags on a donation
You can change a donation's tags in two places:
Inside the Edit Donation window, using the Tags field at the bottom.
From the donation's actions menu, by clicking Manage Tags, which opens a window just for tags. Make your changes and click Save.
If the donation is wrong beyond fixing
If a donation should not exist at all (for example, it was entered twice), you can remove it instead of editing.
Open the donation's actions menu, from either the contact profile or the Donations page.
Click Delete.
Confirm when asked. You will see the message: "Are you sure you want to delete this donation? This action cannot be undone."
Deleting a donation cannot be undone, so use Edit whenever the donation is real and only the details are wrong.
