Tips and tricks for recording with your phone

Quick game-day tips and a pre-game checklist.

Written by Team Reeplayer

These tips are for streaming from your phone. Using the Reeplayer Camera? See Recording your first event.

Setup

Phone sideways (landscape), on a stand or tripod with a phone mount. Which stand and mount?

For where to put your phone, see How do I set up my phone at the game?

Recording

When you stream from your phone, the stream is the recording. Your replay is the livestream, exactly as it went out. Watching live is free. Rewatching a phone event is part of Reeplayer Pro.

Charge + power bank

Start with a full charge. That comfortably covers a couple of games. Tournament day? Bring a power bank and stay plugged in.

Heat

The weather is the real opponent, not the stream. Keep the phone in the shade (an umbrella works wonders) and take the case off on scorching days. If it gets warm, Reeplayer lowers the quality a little to keep you live.

Stand + sandbag

Spread the legs wide. Windy? Hang a sandbag or backpack from the stand.

Field size

Works best on courts and small fields up to about 40 meters (130 feet). For full-size fields, use the Reeplayer Camera. Phone streaming: What sports can I record from my phone?

Do Not Disturb

Turn it on before you go live, so calls and pings don't interrupt the stream.

Quick pre-game checklist

  • Full battery, power bank packed

  • Do Not Disturb on

  • Signal checked at the stand spot

  • Lens wiped

  • Phone sideways, high, tilted slightly down

  • Whole court on screen (0.5x if needed)

  • Everything locked, sandbag on if windy

Then tap Start event, then Go live, and let it roll. Hands off.
