Overview
Leasing events are the fundamental building block of the prospect's journey here. Every time they take a step towards a lease (like scheduling a showing, requesting an application link, submitting a pre-screening), a leasing event gets added and the prospect status is updated.
How to log a leasing event
Open the prospect in the Command Center
Click Action at the top-right
A drawer opens on the right
Use the dropdown to select the appropriate leasing event
Add any internal notes you want to record
Edit the text message that will send (if applicable)
Click "Submit"
The prospect’s status updates immediately, a new follow-up sequence is scheduled, and any associated message is sent.
Action vs. non-action events
Action events
Events that start with “Action”:
Update the prospect’s status
Send a text message to the prospect
Log the leasing event automatically
Use these when you want to both record the outcome and message the prospect.
Examples include:
Send scheduling link
Send application link
Important: Always send the application and scheduling links through RentEngine because the message is pre-loaded, it puts the prospect in the relevant follow-up sequence, and keeps your data clean
Non-action events
All other events:
Update the prospect’s status
Do not send a message
These are useful when you want to update the prospect status, typically to a terminal status like "Application Received," "Not Interested."
Important note about follow-ups
Unless you select an Action event, logging a leasing event will end RentEngine’s automatice follow-up sequences for that prospect.
Best practices
Log a relevant leasing event whenever the prospect's situation has changed
Use Action events when you want to schedule a showing or send the application link
Avoid leaving prospects in outdated statuses
