Overview
When you add an Offer to a Promotion or create a standalone Offer, you choose a discount type and configure how it applies. RepeatMD supports three discount types: Amount Off, Complimentary Item, and Buy X, Get Y. Each type supports flexible controls including per-item or cart-wide application, quantity requirements, minimum spend thresholds, and per-patient usage limits.
This article is for practice owners, managers, and admins who configure discounts on Offers in the Promotions page.
Why It Matters
The discount types in RepeatMD are designed to match the promotional strategies practices already run in the office. A flat percentage off a service, a complimentary add-on with a qualifying purchase, a bundle deal that rewards patients for buying more — all of these are configurable without workarounds.
Getting the discount type and its settings right before scheduling means patients see accurate savings at checkout, your team applies consistent pricing, and your margins stay protected.
Offer Types at a Glance
Offer Type | Best for | Example |
Amount Off | Dollar or percentage discounts on specific items, or the whole cart | 20% off Botox, or $50 off when you spend $250+ |
Complimentary Gift | A free add-on item when a client buys something else | Free serum with any filler treatment |
Buy X, Get Y | Bundle-style deals — reward for buying a qualifying item | Buy any laser package, get an extra session free — or a $25 gift card instead |
How It Works
Discount settings are configured inside the Add Discount step of the Offer creation modal. This section is reached after filling in General Settings and Offer Appearance.
Offer Type determines the structure of the discount. Each type has its own set of fields.
Item Requirement Type controls whether quantity rules are based on the number of units (Quantity) or the spend value (Value).
Qualifying Items is optional. If left empty, the discount applies broadly based on the other settings. If specific items are selected, only those items count toward the discount trigger.
Discount Applies To determines whether the discount is applied to the qualifying line items or the entire cart subtotal.
Require Minimum Spend adds a cart subtotal threshold. The discount does not apply unless the patient's cart meets or exceeds the minimum.
Per Client Limit controls whether a patient can use the Offer multiple times (Unlimited Uses) or only once (One-Time Use).
The Offer Summary panel on the right side of the modal updates in real time as you configure settings. Review it before saving to confirm the discount reads correctly.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Configure an Amount Off Discount
Amount Off applies a dollar or percentage discount to qualifying items or the patient's entire cart.
In your Admin Panel, go to MedCommerce Engine™ → Promotions.
Click New promotion.
Fill in the Promotion Overview: Promotion Name, the Promotion Window (start and end date), and Participating Locations.
(Optional) Choose a Promotion Goal. Picking a goal pre-adds the components typically used for that kind of promotion — you can still add or remove any of them afterward, and choosing a different goal swaps the set (any component you've already started editing stays put).
In the Offer creation modal, complete General Settings and Offer Appearance, then click Add Discount.
Under Offer Type, select Amount Off.
Set the Discount Value:
Select $ for a dollar amount or % for a percentage.
Enter the value.
Set the Item Requirement Type:
Quantity — the discount triggers based on the number of units purchased.
Value — the discount triggers based on the spend value of qualifying items.
Under Select Qualifying Items (optional), choose the specific services or products this discount applies to. If left empty, the discount applies more broadly based on your other settings.
For each selected item, you can set a Min Qty and Max Qty to control how many units count toward the discount.
Set Discount Applies To:
Qualifying Items — the discount applies only to the selected items.
Entire Cart — the discount applies to the patient's full cart subtotal.
Toggle Require Minimum Spend if you want to set a spending threshold. Enter the Minimum Cart Subtotal.
Set Per Client Limit:
Unlimited Uses — the patient can redeem the Offer as many times as it is active.
One-Time Use — the patient can redeem the Offer once.
Review the Offer Summary panel to confirm the discount reads correctly and save.
Configure a Complimentary Gift Discount
Complimentary Item gives patients a free item when they purchase qualifying items.
In the Offer creation modal, complete General Settings and Offer Appearance, then click Add Discount.
Under Offer Type, select Complimentary Gift.
Under Select Qualifying Items, choose the items the patient must purchase to trigger the complimentary item.
Set Min Qty and Max Qty for each qualifying item as needed.
Under Complimentary Items, select the item or items the patient receives for free.
Set Per Client Limit: Unlimited Uses or One-Time Use.
Review the Offer Summary panel to confirm the discount reads correctly.
Click Add Discount to save and return to the Campaign builder or standalone Offer flow.
Configure a Buy X, Get Y Discount
Buy X, Get Y lets patients buy from one set of items and receive a discount on another set.
In the Offer creation modal, complete General Settings and Offer Appearance, then click Add Discount.
Under Offer Type, select Buy X, Get Y.
Under Buy Items, select the items the patient must purchase to qualify. You can select multiple items.
Set Min Qty for each Buy item.
Set the Buy Requirement logic:
Any Item — the patient needs to purchase any one of the selected Buy items.
All Items — the patient needs to purchase every selected Buy item.
Combination — the patient needs to purchase a specific mix of selected Buy items.
Under Get Items, select the items the patient receives a discount on.
Set the discount value for the Get items (dollar amount, percentage, or free).
(Optional) Toggle Require Minimum Spend for an additional cart-level threshold on top of the item requirement.
Set Per Client Limit: Unlimited Uses or One-Time Use.
Review the Offer Summary panel to confirm the discount reads correctly.
Click Add Discount to save and return to the Campaign builder or standalone Offer flow.

The live Offer Summary panel
As you configure any offer type, the Offer Summary panel on the right restates it in plain language — who's eligible, what the discount is, usage limits, and when and where it applies. This isn't a static preview: it's generated live from your current settings and refreshes automatically a moment after you stop editing. Use it as your last check before saving — if the summary doesn't read the way you intended the offer to work, something in the configuration needs a second look.
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Match the discount type to the promotion. A weekend flash sale works well as Amount Off. A treatment bundle works well as Buy X, Get Y. A service-and-product pairing works well as Complimentary Item.
Use quantity limits to protect margins. Set Max Qty on qualifying items when you want to cap how much a patient can save in a single order.
Use minimum spend for higher-ticket promotions. A spend threshold encourages patients to add more to their cart before the discount applies, without discounting every small purchase.
Be specific with Buy X requirements. Use Any Item when any qualifying purchase is enough. Use All Items or Combination when the patient needs to buy a specific set before receiving the discount.
Review the Offer Summary before saving. The summary panel shows exactly how the discount will read to patients. Confirm item names, quantities, and values are correct before clicking Add Discount.
Use the Offer Subheader and Description to reinforce the deal. These are the fields patients see on the Discover page. Write them to match the actual discount — for example, "Save 15% on select Microneedling services this week only."
An In-Office offer does not include a Discount Type or an Included Services selection. There is no system-applied discount. Instead, the patient scans a QR code to redeem and shows their redemption to your staff in person, and your team applies the agreed pricing manually at checkout.
FAQs
Q: What is the difference between Qualifying Items and Discount Applies To?
A: Qualifying Items defines which items trigger the discount. Discount Applies To controls where the savings land — on those specific items or on the entire cart. For example, you could require a patient to purchase a qualifying item and then apply the savings to their whole cart subtotal.
Q: Do I have to select Qualifying Items?
A: No. Qualifying Items is optional for Amount Off. If left empty, the discount applies broadly based on your Discount Applies To setting and any minimum spend requirement you have set.
Q: What does Item Requirement Type control?
A: It determines whether the discount trigger is based on the number of units (Quantity) or the spend value (Value) of the qualifying items. Use Quantity when the rule is "buy 3 or more." Use Value when the rule is "spend $500 or more on qualifying items."
Q: Can I set different quantity rules for different items in the same Offer?
A: Yes. When you select multiple Qualifying Items, you can set a Min Qty and Max Qty individually for each item in the list.
Q: What does Per Client Limit control?
A: It controls how many times a single patient can redeem the Offer. Unlimited Uses means the patient can redeem it as many times as the Offer is active. One-Time Use means each patient can only redeem it once.
Q: The Offer Summary does not look right. What should I check?
A: Review your Offer Type, Discount Value, Qualifying Items, Discount Applies To, and any Minimum Spend settings. The summary updates in real time, so adjusting any field will immediately reflect in the panel.
Q: Can I edit the discount settings after the Offer is scheduled?
A: Open the Offer from the Offers tab on the Promotions page, update the discount settings, and save. If the Offer is part of a Campaign, open the Campaign and update the Offer from there.
