Overview
When creating an offer, you control who is eligible to redeem it using the Eligibility setting. Setting Eligibility to Members-only means only patients with an active, eligible membership can redeem the Offer. The Offer can still be visible to all patients in the app.
Within members-only Offers, you can target all memberships or restrict redemption to specific membership plans.
This article is for practice owners, managers, and admins who create and manage Offers on the Promotions page.
Why It Matters
Members-only Offers let you run two types of targeted promotions from the same workflow. The first is an exclusive reward for existing members — a discount they have earned by being in your membership program. The second is a visible-but-locked promotion that non-members can see but not redeem, which creates a direct, in-app reason to enroll.
Both approaches are more effective than broad discounts. Member appreciation promotions reinforce retention. Visible-but-locked promotions make membership value concrete and immediate for patients who have not yet joined.
What Are Members-Only Offers?
Members-only Offers can be visible to all patients in the app. Non-members can see the Offer and its details, but they cannot redeem it. This behavior is intentional — it shows non-members the value of joining without giving them access to member-exclusive pricing.
The Eligibility field is a two-option toggle:
All Clients — the default. Anyone can redeem the Offer.
Members-only — only patients with an active, eligible membership can redeem it. The Offer can still show up in the app for patients who aren't members — they just can't complete the redemption.
Choosing Members-only reveals a second control, Select Memberships, where you decide which memberships count:
All Memberships — a checkbox that selects every active membership plan at once. It only appears if your practice has more than one active membership plan.
Individual membership checkboxes — one per active membership plan, so you can restrict the Offer to a specific plan (say, a VIP tier) instead of every membership you offer.
Important: when you switch Eligibility to Members-only, every active membership starts checked, not empty. You're unchecking the ones you don't want to include, not checking the ones you do.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Create a Members-Only Offer Inside a Campaign
In your Admin Panel, go to MedCommerce Engine™ → Promotions.
Open an existing draft or click New promotion, then add the Offers block and click Add offer.
Fill in the Offer's name, redemption type, and discount details as usual.
Click Open eligibility and limits to expand that section.
Under Eligibility, select Members-only.
Every active membership will already be checked. Uncheck any you don't want this Offer to apply to, or leave them all checked to include every membership.
Finish configuring the Offer and click Add to promotion (or Update in promotion if you're editing one already added).
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Make the membership benefit clear in the Offer description. If non-members can see the Offer but cannot redeem it, use the Offer Subheader and Description to communicate that it is a member-exclusive perk and how patients can join.
Target specific memberships when the Offer is plan-specific. A VIP-tier Offer should target that membership only, not every active membership in your practice.
Pair members-only Offers with a text message targeting members. Text messages on the Promotions page support a Members Only audience setting. Sending a text that highlights a members-only Offer drives redemption from your most engaged patient segment.
Verify membership status for In-Office Offers. Because In-Office redemption is handled by staff, your team should confirm the patient has an active membership before applying the offer pricing.
Check eligibility settings before scheduling. Review the Eligibility field on each Offer before clicking Schedule Campaign or Schedule offer to confirm the correct membership targeting is set.
FAQs
Q: Can non-members see a members-only Offer in the app?
A: Yes. Members-only Offers can be visible to all patients, but only patients with an active, eligible membership can redeem them.
Q: What happens if a member's subscription lapses or is cancelled?
A: The patient loses eligibility immediately. They cannot redeem the Offer until their membership is active again.
Q: Can I target non-members with an Offer?
A: Offer Eligibility supports All Clients or Members-only. There is no Non-Members-only Eligibility option for Offers. To reach non-members specifically, use All Clients Eligibility and craft the promotion for that audience. For text messages, the Promotions page supports a Non-Members Only audience option.
Q: Can different Offers in the same Campaign have different Eligibility settings?
A: Yes. Eligibility is set at the Offer level. One Offer in a Campaign can be set to All Clients while another is set to Members-only.
Q: Can I target only one specific membership plan?
A: Yes. Under the Members-only setting, select specific membership plans. Only patients enrolled in those plans are eligible.
Q: Does members-only Eligibility work for In-Office Offers?
A: Yes. The Eligibility setting applies to both In-App and In-Office Offers. For In-Office redemptions, staff should confirm the patient has an active, eligible membership before applying the offer pricing.
