Overview
The Pop-Up is one of the six building blocks you can add to a Promotion. It's a full-screen message that appears over the Home screen when a patient opens the app — the highest-visibility placement a Promotion has, whether you're promoting a limited-time sale, new service launches, or events.
It displays your promotion image, header, optional subheader, and a required call-to-action button that sends patients to a destination you choose.
This article is for practice owners, managers, and admins who configure Campaigns in the Admin Panel.
Why It Matters
A pop-up is the one placement in your app every patient sees the moment they open it, without having to scroll to Discover or browse Shop first. That makes it the right tool when a promotion has a hard deadline and you need guaranteed visibility — a 24-hour flash sale, a same-day event reminder, the last day of a seasonal push.
How It Works
Editing the pop-up
Image — click the image area on the preview to upload it. This image belongs to the Pop-Up only — it's not shared with any other component in the Promotion.
Header — click the header text on the preview to edit it. Maximum 80 characters.
Subheader — click the line below the header. Maximum 160 characters, optional.
CTA button — the tappable button at the bottom of the pop-up. Unlike the Discover Card, this one is always clickable and editable — it never gets locked by the Promotion having Offers.
The CTA button's copy
Click it on the preview to choose one of six preset labels — Book now, Buy now, Call now, Learn more, Leave a review, Shop now — or select Custom to type your own. If you leave it blank, it displays "Shop now" by default.
The CTA button's destination
This is set in the "Pop-Up link" panel beside the preview, not on the button itself, and here's where the Promotion's other components do matter:
If the Promotion has a Custom Category: the destination locks to it automatically. The panel shows a read-only note — you can't set a manual link while the Custom Category exists. Remove the Custom Category if you need to point the Pop-Up somewhere else.
If the Promotion has no Custom Category: you set the destination manually, choosing Link to Item (a specific service or product), Link to Shop Category (any existing Shop category), or Link to URL. A destination is required in this case — the Promotion can't be published without one.
Step-by-Step Instructions
In your Admin Panel, go to MedCommerce Engine™ → Promotions.
Open an existing draft or click New promotion.
From the block picker, add the Pop-Up.
Click the image area on the preview to upload your image.
Click the header directly on the preview to set it (80 characters max).
Click the subheader to add supporting copy, if you want it (160 characters max, optional).
Click the CTA button to choose its copy — a preset or a custom label.
If the Promotion has a Custom Category, the destination is already set — nothing to do. If it doesn't, set it in the Pop-Up link panel: choose Link to Item, Link to Shop Category, or Link to URL, and fill in the field that appears underneath (Enter URL).
Continue building any other components, then Schedule the Promotion or Save as Draft.
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Build your Custom Category first if you want the Pop-Up to point there. Once it exists, the Pop-Up's destination locks to it automatically — you don't need to (and can't) set it manually.
Keep the header short — it's the first thing patients see, unprompted. Lead with the offer or the deadline, not the promotion's internal name.
Reserve the Pop-Up for genuinely time-sensitive promotions. It's the most interruptive placement you have; save it for things that actually need same-day attention.
Check the calendar for other active Promotions with a Pop-Up. Multiple Promotions can run at once, and there's nothing stopping two pop-ups from both firing for the same patient.
Only set the CTA button's copy to "Call now" if you actually want a phone call, not a link — choosing it replaces the destination field with a phone number field entirely.
FAQs
Q: When do patients see the pop-up?
A: Patients see the pop-up when they open the app while the Campaign is active. It does not appear before the Campaign start date or after the end date.
Q: Can I link the pop-up button to this Campaign's Custom Category?
A: Yes. Under Link to Shop Category, search for or select "Link to this campaign's custom category." This option only appears after the Custom Category has been created for the Campaign.
Q: What happens if two Campaigns with pop-ups are active at the same time?
A: Both pop-ups can appear to patients. They can swipe to scroll through the different pop-ups. Use the Promotions calendar to identify overlapping windows and avoid scheduling multiple pop-ups in the same period if you want to control what patients see first.
Q: Why can't I set a custom destination for my Pop-Up?
A: The Promotion has a Custom Category, and the Pop-Up automatically links to it. Remove the Custom Category if you need a different destination — the CTA button's copy is still editable either way, just not its link.
Q: The pop-up preview does not look right. What should I check?
A: Review the Pop-Up Image, the Header, optional Subheader, and the Button Label and Link. Adjust any field and re-check the preview before adding to the promotion.
