Overview
The Banner is one of the six building blocks you can add to a Promotion. It's a persistent strip that appears at the top of the screen while patients browse your app. It displays a headline, optional subtext, and your brand colors, and it stays visible as patients navigate — unlike a pop-up, which appears once when they open the app.
Banners are ideal for multi-day or multi-week Campaigns where you want ongoing visibility without interrupting the patient's session.
This article is for practice owners, managers, and admins who configure Campaigns in the Admin Panel.
Why It Matters
A banner keeps your promotion visible throughout the patient's entire app session, not just at the moment they open the app. While a pop-up drives a single moment of awareness, a banner maintains a persistent reminder during the promotion window.
For longer-running promotions, a banner paired with a pop-up on launch day gives you high-impact awareness on day one and consistent visibility for the rest of the promotion.
How It Works
Editing the banner
Header — click the headline text directly on the banner strip in the preview to set it. Maximum 80 characters. Required to publish.
Subtext — click the line below the header on the strip. Maximum 120 characters, optional.
Colors — click the paintbrush icon on the banner strip to open a color picker with two controls: Banner Color and Text Color, each with a color swatch and a hex code field.
Where it links
Set in the Banner link panel beside the preview — the same auto-link behavior as the Pop-Up:
If the Promotion has a Custom Category: the Banner links to it automatically. The panel shows a read-only note; there's nothing to set manually while the Custom Category exists.
If the Promotion has no Custom Category: you set the destination yourself — Link to Item (a specific service or product), Link to Shop Category (any existing Shop category), or Link to URL (a real
http, https, mailto, sms, ortellink). A destination is required in this case before you can publish.
Step-by-Step Instructions
In your Admin Panel, go to MedCommerce Engine™ → Promotions.
Open an existing draft or click New promotion.
From the block picker, add the Banner.
Click the header text on the banner strip to set it (80 characters max).
Click the subtext line to add supporting copy, if you want it (120 characters max, optional).
Click the paintbrush icon to set the Banner Color and Text Color.
If the Promotion has a Custom Category, the link is already set — nothing to do. If it doesn't, set the destination in the Banner link panel.
Continue building any other components, then Schedule the Promotion or Save as Draft.
Best Practices and Pro Tips
Use banners for longer-running promotions. Banners stay visible while patients browse — they are well suited to week-long or month-long promotions where a single pop-up moment is not enough.
Pair with a pop-up on launch day. Use a pop-up when the promotion starts for immediate impact, and a banner for sustained visibility through the promotion window.
Pick a text color with real contrast against your banner color, not just your brand color by default — a banner nobody can read isn't doing anything.
Build your Custom Category first if that's where you want the Banner to link. Once it exists, the Banner's destination locks to it automatically.
Check the Promotions calendar for overlapping banners. Multiple active promotions can display banners at the same time. Review the calendar before scheduling to avoid overwhelming patients with stacked banners.
FAQs
Q: How is a banner different from a pop-up?
A: A pop-up appears once when a patient opens the app. A banner is a persistent strip at the top of the screen that stays visible as patients browse without interrupting their session. Use both together for maximum campaign reach.
Q: How do I set the banner and text colors?
A: Enter hex codes directly in the Banner Color and Text Color fields, or use the color picker. The preview updates in real time so you can confirm readability before adding the banner to the Campaign.
Q: Why can't I set a custom destination for my Banner?
A: The Promotion has a Custom Category, and the Banner automatically links to it. Remove the Custom Category if you need a different destination.
Q: What happens if two Campaigns with banners are active at the same time?
A: Both banners can appear to patients. Use the Promotions calendar to identify overlapping windows and plan scheduling to avoid stacking multiple banners in the same period.
Q: The banner preview does not look right. What should I check?
A: Review the Banner Headline, optional Subtext, Banner Color, and Text Color. Adjust the hex codes if contrast is low and re-check the preview. Also confirm the Button Label and Link if a call-to-action is configured.
