Make a purchase in the Patient App

Learn how patients browse, add to cart, apply eligible discounts, and complete checkout in the Patient App.

Overview

Patients purchase services, memberships, and products directly in the Patient App. Shoppable content appears throughout the app to guide discovery, and checkout supports multiple payment methods including cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Affirm where enabled.

This article is for practice owners, managers, and front-desk staff who walk patients through in-app purchases and troubleshoot cart, discount, or payment issues.

Before You Start

  • The patient must have downloaded and signed into the Patient App.

  • Eligible discounts, rewards, and membership pricing depend on the patient’s enrollment and earned offers.

  • Only one discount or promotional offer applies per transaction. Discounts cannot be stacked.

  • Sales tax and any configured service fees appear at checkout as Tax and Service fee.

  • After purchase, treatments appear in Wallet → Treatments. External booking integrations may offer Book now from the purchased item.

Why It Matters

In-app purchasing drives membership enrollment, prepaid treatment sales, and repeat visits. When your team understands the full checkout path, you can:

  • Close sales in the office by helping patients find items and complete payment on their phone.

  • Resolve discount confusion before checkout by checking eligibility and cart contents.

  • Set payment expectations for tax, service fees, and Affirm financing.

  • Connect purchase to booking when patients need to schedule after they buy.

How It Works

Discovery: Patients browse curated content (Discover cards, shop sections, memberships) or search for a specific treatment, package, or product.

Pricing display: Non-members often see member vs. retail pricing on eligible items. Enrolled members see member pricing reflected in cart when no other offer applies.

Cart and discounts: At checkout, patients may see eligible rewards, Special Offers, Automated Offers, or membership pricing. They select one offer when multiple are available. Promotions show expected savings. If a patient picks a lower-savings option while a better one is available, a confirmation pop-up appears.

Membership auto-apply: If the patient is enrolled and has no other eligible offers, membership pricing updates automatically in cart. See Use membership discount on an in-app purchase (Patient App) for details.

Commission attribution: Some practices enable employee selection at checkout for commission tracking.

Payment and confirmation: Patients pay with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Affirm (where enabled). After payment, a confirmation screen appears and both the practice and patient receive an order confirmation email.

After purchase: Patients return to Wallet → Treatments. If your practice uses external booking software, they can tap Book now on the purchased treatment.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Find and review an item

  1. Open the Patient App.

  2. Browse shoppable content or use Search to find a service, membership, or product.

  3. Tap the item to open its detail page.

  4. Review imagery, description, pre- and post-care, and pricing.

    • Non-members: compare member vs. retail pricing when shown.

    • Optional: add a membership to cart alongside a treatment or package from the membership page or item page.

Add to cart and apply discounts

  1. Tap Add to cart.

  2. Open the cart.

  3. To apply an eligible discount:

    • Review promotion terms (eligible products, cart minimums, exclusions).

    • Add items through the designated promotional flow in the app when required, rather than only manual adds.

    • If manual selection is required, choose the offer in cart or enter a promo code before checkout.

  4. If multiple discounts are available, compare expected savings and select one offer.

  5. If membership pricing should apply and no other offer is selected, confirm member pricing is reflected on line items.

Eligible discount criteria (any one applies):

  • The patient earned a reward or qualifies for a live Special or Automated Offer.

  • Discounted item(s) are in the cart when the offer is product-specific.

  • The patient has not already used that one-time discount.

If a discount still does not apply, verify the promotion is live, items are eligible, and no exclusions apply.

Complete checkout

  1. If enabled for your practice, select any employees who helped with the purchase.

  2. Tap Check out now.

  3. Review line items, Tax and Service fee, and total.

  4. Select a payment method:

    • Manual card entry

    • Apple Pay

    • Google Pay

    • Affirm (where enabled)

  5. Tap Place order.

  6. Review and confirm on the final screen.

  7. Wait for the confirmation screen confirming the purchase is complete.

After purchase

  2. Locate the purchased treatment or package.

  3. If your practice uses external booking, tap Book now to schedule the appointment.

Best Practices and Pro Tips

  • Use promotional flows in the app when a sitewide or special offer requires specific entry paths. Manual cart adds may not trigger eligibility.

  • Compare savings in cart when patients have multiple offers. The app highlights expected savings for a reason.

  • Explain one discount per order before patients reach payment.

  • Link membership pricing questions to the dedicated membership discount article when patients ask why a member price did or did not apply.

  • Confirm email delivery for order records. Both practice and purchaser receive confirmation emails.
