If you're asking this question, it may be safe to assume that one of your patients sent you a text using the word "STOP" in response to a message that was sent to them either automatically or manually via Aloha. Let's break down what happens when a patient sends you the word "STOP".

When a patient texts "STOP"* to your phone number, the patient will be automatically opted out from receiving any incoming messages from your office. This includes automated messages (e.g. appointment reminders, feedback requests).

Please note, NOTHING more needs to be done on your end to ensure the patient's communication preferences are updated.

Moreover, any contacts that have opted-out out of text (or email) communication will have a visual indicator for reference. If the contact opted out of text communication, their phone number will be highlighted in red on the CONTACTS tab > SHOW CONVERSATIONS page. (If the contact opted out of email communication, their email address will be highlighted in red.)

*Some carriers also recognize "CANCEL" as an opt-out word.

If a patient sends the word “STOP” accidentally, no need to worry! The patient can send the word “START” to the office at any time to opt themselves back into automated messaging with Aloha.
