In Clerk, there are two kinds of Invoices you can create:

  1. Appointment-Associated Invoices: these are created during an Appointment's Checkout process

  2. One-Off Invoices: these are created from the Invoices Tab or the Financial's tab of the Patient Profile

Appointment-Associated Invoices are important for Insurance Claims, HSAs, HRAs, and Personal Injury Cases. When these Invoices are made, Diagnosis Codes, Treatment Codes, Modifiers, and Units should then carry over to any Claims that are made from those Invoices (along with any Treatment dates inputted on the Outcome screen on the Treatment tab). Once the Claim has been approved, whatever amount was approved for can automatically get paid out on that same Invoice!

Fun Fact!✨ This setting is called Autopay Claims! This works if you are integrated with our clearinghouse! You can check and see if this is turned on by going to Settings > Location Settings > Advanced Settings:

One-Off Invoices are great when a patient comes in wanting to purchase supplements or other health-related products that are either not going to get billed to Insurance or are purchased on days when the patient does not have an Appointment! This means that these charges are not affected by SALT, or charges that can be carried over/repeated from previous Appointments!
