Understanding Funnel stages

Funnel stages represent a potential customer's journey from becoming aware of a product or service to making a purchase. These stages typically include awareness, interest, consideration, and valuation, guiding the customer's journey toward conversion.

Funnel stages are the distinct steps users take as they move toward completing a specific action, like signing up for a service. Tracking these stages helps you:

  • Identify where users drop off in the process.

  • Improve user experience.

  • Optimize each stage to increase conversion rates.

How to Create Funnel Stages: A Step-by-Step Guide

Creating funnel stages is essential for tracking user progress and identifying areas for optimization. This guide will help you set up funnel stages effectively to improve conversion rates.

Steps to Create Funnel Stages

Follow these steps to create funnel stages for your analysis:

Step 1: Give a Stage Name

Start by naming each funnel stage. Choose a name that represents the action or step the user is taking. This will help you quickly identify and manage your funnel stages later.

Step 2: Select a Channel for the Funnel Stage

Next, choose the channel where the funnel stage applies. This could be a specific platform, website, or campaign where the user interaction occurs.

Step 3: Choose an Object and Date Field

Select the object corresponding to the action or data you want to track. Then, choose a 'date' option from the 'Date Field' to specify the time frame for your funnel stage. This helps in analyzing user behavior over a specific period.

Step 4: Define the Stage Type and Metrics

  • For Numeric Stage Types:

    • Choose 'Numeric' as the stage type.

    • Select a standard metric from the dropdown menu next to the stage type. Metrics could include actions like clicks, sign-ups, or purchases.

    • Choose a computation method: 'Count,' 'Sum,' or 'Average.' This determines how the data will be calculated.

    • Select an appropriate 'Currency' from the dropdown menu if the metric involves funds.

  • For Text Stage Types:

    • Choose 'Text' as the stage type.

    • Select a standard dimension from the dropdown menu. Dimensions could include attributes like user location, device type, or campaign name.

    • Choose an operator: 'Count' for total occurrences or 'Unique Count' for distinct values.

Step 5: Set Conditions for the Funnel Stage

Conditions define when a user enters or exits a funnel stage. Set conditions that are relevant to the object you chose earlier. For example, if you’re tracking sign-ups, the condition could be “User signed up” within a specific date range.

Step 6: Group Funnel Stages by Adding Conditions

You can group multiple funnel stages by adding conditions that tie them together. This helps create a more comprehensive analysis of user behavior across different stages.

Step 7: Set the Trend for the Funnel Stage

Determine the trend you want to analyze for the funnel stage. Depending on your needs, this could be daily, weekly, or monthly trends. Setting trends allows you to monitor changes over time and adjust strategies accordingly.

Step 8: Hit 'Create'

Once you’ve set all the parameters and conditions, click the 'Create' button to finalize your funnel stage. Your funnel stages will now be ready for tracking and analysis.

The created funnel stage will appear under the Funnel stage listing page.
