Nomad Insurance Essential (Updated Version): What is the Adventure Sports add-on?

This article applies to the updated Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective February 2026. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.

If you purchase the Adventure Sports Add-on, it extends the list of sports covered under your Nomad Insurance Essential base plan. You can find the comprehensive list of activities below. This add-on has a maximum limit of $100,000.

For included activities, coverage applies to:

  • Attending classes

  • Solo training

  • Private lessons

  • Informal group training

Coverage does not apply to:

  • Professional, organized, or rewarded sports

  • Expeditions

  • Any activity where reasonable safety precautions are not taken

Definitions and clarifications:

  • Professional: If you are a professional athlete or instructor, you are not covered while practicing your sport.

  • Organized: The activity must not involve regular or scheduled practices and must not include any intention to compete.

  • Rewarded: There must be no wage, reward, or profit associated with your participation.

  • Expeditions: Coverage does not apply to activities in remote or inaccessible areas, exploratory expeditions, or attempts at new routes or activities (for example, in Antarctica, the Arctic Circle, or Greenland).

  • Safety: The activity must be properly supervised, and all appropriate safety equipment (such as helmets or life jackets) must be used.

The cost of this add-on can be found on our pricing page.

Please note:

  • This add-on is excluded in your home country.

  • This add-on is only available at the time of purchase and can't be added to an active plan.

Adding the Adventure Sports add-on when you already have a plan

If you already have a plan but want to add this benefit, you'd need to cancel your current plan and buy a new one with the add-on.

Just remember that when you purchase a new plan, any conditions treated under your current plan will become pre-existing, and will now be excluded.
