Nomad Insurance Essential (Updated Version): Which sports and activities does this plan apply to?

Learn which sports and activities are covered or not covered under this plan.

This article applies to the updated Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective February 2026. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.

The base plan refers to the Essential plan without the Adventure Sports add-on. You can purchase the Adventure Sports coverage for certain adventure sports!

Important conditions

To determine whether an activity is covered, ALL of the following conditions must be met:

Step 1: Activity Type

The activity must fall under the included sports or activities in the base plan or Adventure Sports add-on.

Step 2: Participation Format (Required)

Coverage applies only if the activity is done as one of the following:

  • Solo training

  • Attending classes

  • Private lessons

  • Informal group training

Step 3: Exclusions (Any "Yes" = Not Covered)

The activity must not be:

  • Professional (If you are a professional athlete or instructor, you are not eligible for coverage while practicing your sport.)

  • Organized (The activity must not involve regular or scheduled practices and must not include any intention to compete.)

  • Rewarded (There must be no wage, reward, or profit connected to your participation in the activity.)

  • An expedition (You are not covered while exploring remote or inaccessible areas, participating in exploratory expeditions, or attempting new routes or activities—for example, in Antarctica, the Arctic Circle, or Greenland.)

  • Conducted without reasonable safety precautions (You must ensure the sport or activity is properly supervised and that all appropriate safety equipment (such as helmets or life jackets) is used.)

Anything not listed as a covered sport or activity is not guaranteed to be eligible for coverage, even if it does not appear on the non-covered list. Whether or not coverage applies to a specific situation and activity can only be determined by the claims team once a claim has been submitted.

If there is a sport that you may be interested in the future but it is not listed, let us know, and we will consider adding it in our next policy update. We appreciate your help in improving our terms to better meet our members' needs!
