This article applies to the updated Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective February 2026. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.
Nomad Insurance Essential covers personal items in the following situations:
Lost checked luggage: If your luggage goes missing on your flight or cruise and is still missing after 10 days, you can get reimbursed for the contents, up to $3,000 per active insurance period, $500 per item, and $6,000 lifetime maximum.
Robbery: If your personal belongings and/or money are taken from you by force, violence, or threat of force, you are covered for reimbursement up to $10,000 lifetime maximum, $500 per personal belonging, and $300 for cash or cash equivalent. Please note that electronics are not covered under this benefit.
Theft of wallet: If your wallet is stolen, you are covered for a $150 reimbursement per incident, up to $450 lifetime maximum. A police report must be submitted within 24 hours of the theft, and you must have taken reasonable care for the safety of your wallet.
Therefore, theft of other personal belongings (i.e., mugging of items other than your wallet) and damage of personal belongings are outside of policy terms.
We offer an add-on that covers theft for electronics. Laptops, cameras, lenses, smartphones, e-readers, music players, tablets, earphones, AirPods, drones, smartwatches, headphones, portable wi-fi devices, and portable gaming devices (including computer mouse) can be eligible for coverage.
