Nomad Insurance Essential (Older Version): What is personal liability benefit?

This article applies to the older Nomad Insurance Essential plan version effective September 2025. If you are not sure which plan version you are under, please check with our Customer Care team.

Nomad Insurance Essential includes some personal liability coverage for damages you cause to a third party. This coverage protects you when you are legally responsible for accidentally causing harm to another person or damaging their property while traveling.

Personal liability benefit would only apply to court-entered judgments or approved settlements. In other words, there needs to be legal action for the benefit to apply.

What does personal liability coverage include?

Personal liability coverage under Nomad Insurance Essential applies when you are legally liable to pay the costs associated with:

  • Accidentally hurting someone’s body, including death, illness, and disease (this benefit is not for a related third person)

  • Accidentally damaging or losing someone’s property or things (physical, tangible, material)

What is NOT covered under personal liability?

Nomad Insurance Essential excludes personal liability coverage for incidents involving motorized vehicles. This means the policy does not function as car insurance.

Exclusions from personal liability coverage

Please note that something caused directly or indirectly in connection to any of the following points automatically excludes you from being eligible under personal liability:

  • Motorized vehicle (for example: car or moped)

  • Aircraft

  • Hovercraft

  • Watercraft (boat, vessel)

  • Parachute, parasail, glider

  • Firearms, fireworks, explosives, deadly weapons

  • Racing activity

  • Hunting activity

  • Gambling, gaming, or betting of any kind
